Please help. Chick with broken leg

How long does it usually take for them to build up their strength? After I posted the questions last night I found and tried the bandaid trick. He seems a little stronger today. He can get to water and food but prefers to sleep lying down alot. Thanks for the replies

Please help. Chick with broken leg

Hello all, I have a chick hatched yesterday who can move around a little but doesn't stand up. His left leg is to the side a bit when laying down. I'm pretty sure it must be broken. Is it humane to try and raise him or will he be miserable and not heal correctly? I don't want him to suffer...

    Mean Orpington Rooster?

So you can try to raise them like a pet and really let them get to know you and the kids but when maturity and instinct kick in things will change? To an extent does each one have different personalities? I hate to see him go but my kids need to play in the yard not stay inside because of...

Interesting. Thanks alot for the input. Can you tell me any more about crossing these two breeds that might help me? I will probably stick with these two breeds since I like them so much. The term sex linked does that mean you can tell their sex from chicks??

    Mean Orpington Rooster?

We only have one Rooster and two hens. We hatched about 10 eggs last spring and almost all were roos. So we sold them as they were fighting too much and kept only one. Well I know Buff O are supposed to be fairly gentle and docile but he really comes after our three and five year old boys so...

    Orpintons and eggs

My BO took more like 8 months too but get ready. My hen loved plenty to fluffy hay to lay her eggs in. I tried to use a ceramic egg to choose where they laid but they found a bail of hay they liked better than their coop (we let them free range all day and put up at night, we also have a great...

Crossing Buff O Rooster with Light Brahma Hen??

Sorry for my ignorance but what exactly does that mean? Can I know which are pullets and cockerels by their color?

Crossing Buff O Rooster with Light Brahma Hen??

Hello everyone! I just hatched my first batch of chicks from my first batch of hens I raised from chicks. Some of the chicks are yellow while others are buff colored. All have feathered feet though. Is the color indicative of the sex of the chicks or are they randomly taking color traits...
