Hello, I have been trying for a few months to re home my laying hens and the weather has conspired against me. I had 5, and one passed due to the cold. I need to find a proper home for them where they can do what they do best....lay gorgeous eggs!

Where about in Ohio are you? I would love to get them with some other hens. I have a black headed Americana and a red headed Auracana and two crested Polish.
I live in a city that doesn't allow chickens. We have been having visiting rats...I don't want them setting up shop. I love my birdies..but I want them to live in a farm environment...free range with warm living quarters would be best.
One of our Polish had the same symptoms and was near death back in October. She did the wobbly walk and cornered herself for a day or so. Then she barely picked her head up off the ground. I brought her in the house where it was warm and the other hens wouldn't trample her. My husband fed her...
I have a friend who feeds/shelters feral cats. She said if you put sugar in their water, it freezes slower...and gives them a boost of sugar in the cold. Just wondered if anyone does it? I did it last night for the first time and they seemed to love it. Not real sure it made the water freeze slower.
