Hi all... I have a flock of Hmong chickens... that have been selected to be silvers rather than golds for a number of generations. The Birchen gene is common in the flock, as is lacing. In addition some birds are predominantly white.
In any event, occasionally, not often... a laced brown-gray...
What I am trying to figure out is if the Sportsman is actually better at incubating than the using several Genesis units.... having several means a failure is more localized... but there is the convenience issue.. and cost per capacity.... what i need to have a handle on to make up my mind are...
# 1 was a rooster... the other 3 were hens.... the splash is the sweetest hen you can imagine... unfortunately... one 2 hens and the rooster there was way too much straw colored leakage to use them as breeders... pretty dissapointed with the quality on the GFF stock w regard to BBS Marans.. the...
Could be... difficult to get pics... its only really visible when he walks... ok from what i see the leg is swollen at the elbow with the swelling on the inside of the leg. When he walks its the opposite of bow legged... so when facing him the elbows point in (more pronounced in one side). He...
Hi All.
I have a cockerel who is 9 months old. I noticed the other day that one leg seems disjointed at the elbow. He was still walking on it but the angle was off...
He is in a calm pen with 4 docile pullets...
A week later both legs are like this. He is alert... walking... running over for...
I have these as well, and they are both smart and friendly... especially the hens... i have noticed that some of the roos have sapphire blue earlobes.. quite striking... i was told by some other breeders that black and sapphire ear flaps are acceptable but white should be culled. My birds are...
I realize that roosters will mate with anything... my question is, if there are many hens is there any tendency to preferentially mate with their own variety... or are varieties a human thing... so in a mix of very different chickens like marans and cermani... should we expect crosses to be a...
Question on Svart Hona ear lobes... I have 7 from Greenfire... 4 boys and 3 girls... a couple of the boys are now developing bright blue ear flaps... beautiful really but seems like this might be a fault? They are about 4 months old...
My understanding is that the lavender is a different gene that also dilutes like blue... but it expresses when homozygous double recessive... so no splash... just lavender, split for lav (hidden lav) and black... since its a diff gene birds can have blue as well... effects do not appear to be...
I would not risk it either... here is a manual for meat use and poultry disease for developing countries... not that it will be the same in the USA but there are pictures and diagnosis and recommendations... their pics for mareks look similar. anyway...
hmmm with the possibility of it being a recessive trait... may be a good idea not to breed the ones who express cause it could be a bugger to get rid of. From what I have read the Hmong birds are a melting pot of bloodlines... so the strait could have come from anywhere... they are discussed on...
