Thanks, i was just skeptical because a dog crate might not be the best inclosure, and it doesn't get much light. There are three chicks and one in the process of hatching. These eggs don't look to good, do you think they will hatch?
These are the chicks in the nest. one is older than we...
My most anticipated silkie buff orpington chicks have hatched (I DID IT!!!!!! YES!!!!) they are in a dog crate, pretty good size, with shavings and a hay nest. layer pellets for Virgil (Mother) and water. If i leave her to the chicks will she take care of them, with the exception of me...
Last night, i saw that one of my chicks has a sort of ruptured rear end. i have worries from past experiences, but it isn't bleeding, just dry. her feathers are sort of dry and brown

I can give her some oyster shells if thats what you say. she hasn't gotten worse and is a little more active. and i have no idea what crop is, thanks though. and by the way, she is at least two years old and a good layer. she is a barred rock.
one of my chickens has been laying wrinkled eggs (shells) for the past five days. she is a bit inactive, mostly stands in one place for long periods of time. i picked her up and could hear lots of swishing of liqiuds in her upper chest. she doesnt make much effort to run away when i go near her...
I saw my Rooster and my hens Together, and i want to raise chicks. so far, There is two eggs in the nest. even though i saw them together, how can i be sure that the hen was fertilized? She isn't broody yet, so i cant do the flashlight trick. every time my rooster approaches my hen, i think...
Thanks for the info. i was reading an article in Backyard Poultry about raising chicks without Medication. It was talking about antibiotics and other medications, and I was wondering, do those come mixid in with food, like chick starter? i also read about the heat lamp and how you should adjust...
I have two Buff Orpington bantam hens and one silkie rooster together. when the chicks come, if they do, will they be a mix variety of Orpingtons and Silkies, or will they be Silkie Orpington cross? i guess some would be Orpingtons and some Silkies but I'm not sure. does anyone know?
i have 17 chickens, 10 of them i recently got at an auction on the 18th. they all stopped laying about 5 days ago. (the ones that i ha before the auction) i am wondering if the newcomers are causing the others to stop laying, or if they aren't laying where they should... any ideas?
is she active? put electrolites in her water and if she is falling asleep while standing she could have a serious problem. check her areas around and on her butt and make sure there are no entrails hanging of showing. also check there for blood . make sure the box is always as clean as can be!
