    Hawks Alive!!!!!

Not ready yet. Our Kodi dog was a sweet boy but he had a brain tumor at 2 years and it was traumatic......that is why I went for the complete opposite breed and size dog for the family. But we will consider in time.

    Hawks Alive!!!!!

Gone to the Birds Guy here. I am bummed that we lost our first feather baby to a Red tail hawk yesterday. Also bummed that my boys had to witness and handle it ...while I was not home. They managed to get the rest of the flock to safety and then chased the big Raptor off with brooms. My...

Thank you for your kindness in replying. I have not seen Athena eat any of her feathers and I have not seen any feather picking by anyone. It is strange. I thought of the protein issue...but they get an organic Dumonts feed that seems to have all the nutrients. In addition I have a cup of...

I will do that...thanks for the offer. I am running on a bad luck streak it seems. Yesterday a redtail hawk swooped down and got one of my teenager chickens. She was a pretty red hen. My boys witnessed it, I was at work. So sad. :-(

Gone to the Birds Guy here! Hi ... a friend of mine mentioned that she uses diatomaceous earth as sort of a powder bath.....sprinkles it on the chickens butt and then lets it work on its own. I guess it drys or flakes off? Anyway I want to know is this safe? My chicken ....Peeps..... is a...

    Happy Hens a Laying!

Hi I am excited to see.... that now 3 of my 4 girls are laying eggs. The latest to get on schedule is the black americauna. We named this one "The Bird" after my youngest son's favorite character in a cartoon tv show. Anyway, she lays a small kind of oblong pointy bluish egg. This new egg...

I am a total newby to chickens

Rhodies are great layers and a hardy bird. If you are only interested in birds for laying.... look on the review page for recommendations on the breeds. If you are interested in for pets and fun..... why not mix the flock. I have two mutts, an then an americauna and a jubilee orpington. My...

I am a total newby to chickens

Wow! I'd move in there! Make sure those windows are able to be opened up or down so you can regulate airflow when you want to. You should look to put in a vinyl floor over that particle board in the floor to make for easy clean out and to spare the wood of rot etc... It looks like you can...

Home made oyster shell - to be or not to be?

Thanks for the reply! It isnt a cost factor for me ....but we try not to waste anything ...in our home. Oyster shell is just a treat for my girls.... I do give them grit from the local feed and grain too. I am proud of and enjoying my "chicken venture" we had a really bad cold spell here...
