We're they also very large?
I've never had any of the "rangers" which are supposed to be a Cx alternative. These girls are still pullets and as large or larger than my black JG hens. Just heavier in the way they are built all over. And I do like a big solid hen.
I feel like maybe FR is a best guess due to their sheer size.
I have a roo that is red/blue with baring (bielefelder x blue copper marans) that I may put over them(if they lay pretty well) too see if I can make more with similar looks. Not at all sure about maintaining the size though. They are...
I really think they are too red, and too large, to be bielefelder. But mix is a possibility I guess.
This link shows where I found ref to brindle. A European? Site that has info on hybrid layers. But those are also a smaller bird.
I've got these two girls, slow growing but VERY large and VERY heavy. Very beefy build, large thick legs. Appear to be dominant red barred/brindle. The came from a mixed lot of chicks I got last year. BYM I guess. I think they are about 5 months.
I've not seen a mix myself that would produce...
I'm looking for Black Dutch bantams. A breeder for a trio or chicks in the central FL area, or eggs available for shipping from just about anywhere.
I thought that one of the hatcheries used to have them, but sadly I can't find the black variety available anywhere currently. I'm not interested...
I've had geese for several years now, but recently lost the gander of my trio of Pilgrims to coyotes after he flew over our back fence during daily zoomies.
Anyway, in my search for a new gander I ended up with a standard white colored Tufted Roman and what I think is a hatchery Toulouse goose...
I need a bit of help from a Pilgrim breeder...
I got a pair two pair of goslings this spring, one pair of 'Pilgrims', which is what I was going for, and one odd pair which is a white Chinese and what I believe to be an embden or embden mix...
While I adore the 'Pilgrims' due to their quiet...
I appreciate your reaponses...
I've finally decided that this boy is either embden or embden mix as he's not as big as I would expect an embden to be. His feathers just are not as tight as my one Chinese or my pair of supposedly Pilgrims that now, appear to be Cotton Patch(entirely different...
Thank you very much.
I'll keep watching him... he does seem to have lumpy/looseish feathering like the pic of the 9 week old. The others all and what I think of as normal firm feathering, his flutter in the breeze a bit on his back. It's just a matter of wait and see I guess. It's just...
I got 4 goslings in late March, they were about 2 weeks old at purchase. They were sold to me as 3 pilgrims and one unknown. Once I picked them up I determined that there was indeed a pair of Pilgrims, one claimed as Pilgrim but I had doubts and assumed it was an embden, and the stated unknown...
Lord have mercy... the big one has got to be an embden... I've never seen anything grow so fast!
I took a look and the embden is a boy... the white chinese appears to be a girl. So I guess I'll use them for a meat cross as I'm not keen on keeping lots of them around.
My primary focus is the...
I have one Blue Andalusian and she is really sweet... not flighty like I've heard. She follows me, and likes to have pets/cuddles.
But, I'm going to assume that maybe she is the exception rather than the rule.
I picked up four goslings today. Just got them home an hour or so ago. I was looking for Pilgrims, and was told that there were 3, and one 'other'. I've been wanting Pilgrims for a while and had no luck in my area, so I jumped on them.
Once I went to pick them up there appeared to be a pair of...
Instead of Silkies... OEGB. Old English Game Bantams.
I personally keep them as my bug brigade. They are small, forage like crazy, reasonably 'tame'(hens can be very, roos tend to be a bit more flighty and are extremely watchful), eat little purchased feed, and are nicely fertile and the hens...
