Unfortunately I do not have a large area for my chickens. That is part of the reason why I didn't want to add another rooster to my flock. I did not take into consideration that I would have to sequester the rooster with the hen(s). That will probably be my best option to ensure they are pure...
I currently have 10 Hens to my 1 RIR Rooster. They pretty much are out in the yard/run all day long. I was hoping to get one or maybe two more Buff Orpington Roosters to some day breed with my Buff Orp Hens. My question is that would it be okay to rotate the new Rooster(s) with the Hens. I...

The only one I could find was from Grandpas. Looked high and low for more choices but no luck. I was thinking of getting the standard size for my 12 Hens and 1 Roo. They never seem to eat at the same time anyways.
I am on the verge of purchasing a galvanized treadle feeder. The main reason being the huge amounts of feed eaten by the wild birds in the yard, mainly sparrows. Does anyone else out there use it and is it worth the rather steep price? I have neither the time or the skill to build my own from...
I recently introduced a new RIR rooster to my flock of 11 hens. He is only 4 months old and pretty tame. The first day he came in contact with the other hens, my 2 oldest hens (16mos) Black Stars immediately challenged him and became dominant. He is actually a little bigger than the hens now...
Is it bad if laying hens eat chick starter (broiler)? A couple of my hens seem to prefer it. They always try to get at my pullets feed through the coop wire and sometimes eat the leftovers even though they have their own food.
