The run is 14 feet by 5 feet and the coop is 4feet by 5 feet with multiple roosts, feeding areas and water areas. It is also about 5.5 feet tall with roosts everywhere. There is enough space for this many. I saw people posts on here where they had twice as many in a run/coop this size.
So I already had 4 chickens and they are close to a year old now.
I recently got 3 free chicks for free and they are currently a little over 2 months old.
What is the best way to add the new chicks to the small flock.
Right now the new chicks are in the run in a dog crate with a metal cage...
Went out with some slices of bread. She was the first to grab a slice. Picked her up and she has a little scrap on what I think is considered her earlobe and her eye is just a bit swollen but nothing is in it... I think she will be fine!
Normally they run right to me. I think she might be spooked or is just avoiding me because she is sore.
No frost bit, just some mud and dirt from digging in the mud. It's just her eye swollen a bit closed I think and maybe a little scrap on the side of her face. But I watched her open her jaws...
I was moving my coop to give the chicks some fresh grass to scratch at and while I do this it is hard to see where they are. When I put down one of the ends a chicken was packing under a support beam and was pinned under it for a 10 to 15 seconds. Once I realized I immediately got it free and it...
We have a lot of humidity on the coast and so far I think the amount I have vented it pretty good. Thanks for the advice . These are my first chickens and i made this cheap small setup to make sure i would have fun with this. Next summer i plan to make a better setup
I free range then during the day. They are only in the coop at night or when it's too cold and windy. I regularly give them veggies and stuff to play with and piles of grass and leaves to scratch in. Thanks for the advice!
The coop has a big upper vent and I keep the chicken door open as it's completely wired up from predators. The wind is blocked by plastic covering the run and I have not seen frost inside the coop yet so I'm guessing things are going good so far. Thanks for all the advice
