@Ezana4CE @WingItRanch Thank you both for your kind words. It's true copperheads aren't really killers, they do cause intense pain. We also had rattle snakes in the area, so since we didn't know, we went in. Regarding treatment, doctors don't know copperheads can cause issues like this either...
I don't mind. I.was the one who brought it up. I never know whether to say I was hiking or walking. I was on a community path, but it stretches eight miles. It's nice and manicured in some areas, but also goes through some rugged areas, and cow pastures in others. We had gone farther than we had...
Yes, those lessons learned as a child tend to stick! Thanks for the story, even if your snake wasn't venemous. Good luck with your ladies and your snakes!
I hesitate to write this... but I'm curious about your snake bite experience @Ezana4CE. I was living in VA, and was bitten by a copperhead while out hiking. I stepped on her. It changed my life. I went on to develop life-threatening allergies to everything and even nothing sometimes. (No more...
I used to make my own chicken feed, and used Azure as a source. They were excellent for me.
I wish I could help with recipe formulation, but I didn't know I had celiac back when I was doing this (among other lurking allergies). My recipes had a lot of gluten. Best of luck in your search...
You can buy 200+ red wigglers on amazon for very inexpensive. You can use them to make worm compost for your garden, and then you can feed the excess worms to your ladies. :) I was making worm compost for a little bit, but I had a baby and forgot about the bin. They died... :( I want to start...
I built a tractor last year, and it turned out terrible because I used the wrong size lumber, trying to save money. It worked well until my boys climbed it... I used 2x2's (I think that's right -- the small square boards you find at lumber stores), but if you use 2x4's you could make it very...
Er ma gersh, you guys. I went from having never had a broody hen to having one last year. I've had three so far this year, and then today, I have two more that want to as well. It was bringing these wyandottes on board that was the game changer. ha ha ha So I have 9 under my broody EE, and I am...
Oh, what a difficult lesson for your son! I remember those kinds of lessons so well, and it makes me feel so badly for well meaning little guys. Bless his heart.
Start counting tomorrow. I wouldn't worry about her trying to get up and pace. I've had a broody off the nest for an hour before, and everything went swimmingly. She sounds ready. Good luck!! Keep us updated.
I always hatch under broody hens, so I don't see the intimate details of the hatchings, but to me this just looks like some left over yolk sack that detached from a chick. There isn't any blood, so I wouldn't be concerned about it.
