    Ok I am also considering Welsummers and Black Copper Marans, have you had any experience with either of them, and if so which has a darker egg? And better layer?

    Not sure this is the right thread to comment on, but I'm looking into getting a few of these hens, how dark of and egg do they lay(could someone post a pic of an egg) and how good of a layer are they?

    Oh ok, and I was actually planning on buying pullets about 4-6 months old( closer to laying eggs :)) but I was looking in a Murray McMurray catalog and they run 19.99 per bird! Is that a good price? Seems a little pricey to me!

    Ok, thanks for all the advice! I think I will go with whatever they are selling, 1st choice is marans, and then welsummers or jersey black giants or Delawares. Any idea what the going price for any if these breeds as a pullet is? :)

    Ok thanks! I'm going to a chicken sale this Saturday, have either one of you heard of black jersey giants? I heard they lay super huge brown eggs. But I will let y'all know what I end up bringing home! :)
