    Shade/shelter solutions please :-)

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions. I do have some temporary solutions in place such as the tables and tarps you mentioned but it just looks so untidy. I don't want the pen looking like a yard sale. I made a wooden table type shelter and it looks better than the plastic one but it's...

Quail with broken finger, what should i do?

I had this with one of mine a few years ago. I cut out a 'shoe' from cardboard by using her good foot as a template (what fun drawing round a quails toes!!!), flipped it over to match the broken side and then just used medical tape to tape her toes into their correct position. I had to replace...

    Shade/shelter solutions please :-)

This is my chicken pen. It was originally designed as a rabbit run and there are rabbits living in one half of it, totally separated from the chooks. Each half has a 6ft x 4ft wendy house (low level shed....4ft high) and the chicken side also has a traditional style 12 bird henhouse. These...

    Help! Baby chicks dying:(

I'd agree that there seems to be limited 'cool off' space and they may be overheating. If they are scattered around, they clearly aren't too cold but may be too warm and will therefore also dehydrate rapidly xx

Rabbit Housingn Ideas/Post Your Rabbit Hutch/Run

Thank you. I hate confining bunnies to cages/hutches so we've always had them in nice bIg runs but it doesn't come cheap.....the current one which is half for buns and half for chooks cost £2000 to have built!!!

HELP! Baby mouse! *Help no longer needed*

Very definitely a field mouse....brownish fur with a white belly, chin and feet. Much rounder muzzle and much cuter than a house mouse but despite the fact that you're right, they SHOULDN'T smell so much, little Trio certainly did. We had to keep his 'toilet corner' immaculate or my son's room...

    What gender/breed is my chicken?

I'd go pullet too but brahma should have heavily feathered legs xx

    Dead chick :-(

Yes, sadly, these things do sometimes 'just happen' and we never know the cause but I would certainly provide both water sources at least as it's an easy fix. Try giving the lethargic chicks (or all of them, in fact, they'll all enjoy it!) some scrambled egg for an energy boost and if you...

    What animals on 1 acre?

I have an acre of paddock and when I just had goats, half of that space would have been plenty for my four. They are not big grazers so were easy on the grass and there was no real poaching it into mud either. I have always supplemented their feed with hay though as the browsing opportunities...

HELP! Baby mouse! *Help no longer needed*

He was a field mouse....cute as a button but pretty smelly! We loved him though and although he never became handleable, he took food from our hands and was happy t be out and about in his cage when we were around.

    Sand in run

They will not only ingest it but it will eat into their feet over time and cause permanent damage.

Size feeder and waterer needed for 17 birds

If you have 17 birds, you need several feeders and waterers. They will have a natural hierarchy....the pecking order....and dominant birds will prevent subservient birds from eating and drinking so it is important to have multiple options available, preferably out of line of sight of each other...

A jersey giant cockerel with no ability or inclination to crow, in Jubilee orp colours :love:love:love
