    American serama thread!

I got mine here, http://www.mypetchicken.com/catalog/Chicken-Health/Diatomaceous-Earth-Food-Grade-p147.aspx (hopefully linking to products off-site is okay). Like Brookhavens said though, any feed store should have some. Chickens eating a bit of it is a-okay. My previous chicken liked to...

Just to echo the rest of you, DE is a godsend. It's great for all kinds of things! Since I have my coop indoors, I don't really have a bug problem, but sprinkling some DE on the coop floor really helps keep any smells down, and it quickly dries up poop for easy clean up and no dirty chicken feet.

Yes, I only started giving them vitamin drops when they started to go downhill. I've used Poly-Vi-Sol (those liquid infant vitamin drops) in the past with different avians, but this time for the two youngest chicks I used Nutri-drench (the one formulated for poultry). I researched and compared...

I actually just picked up some plain yogurt for them yesterday while I was at the store and was planning on letting them try some tomorrow. Hopefully they'll like it!

    American serama thread!

I have bad news guys... The youngest two chicks (one of which was the one that pipped in the middle of the shell and I had to assist) didn't make it through the night last night. They had been very sluggish for the past couple days, very sleepy, but would cry all night over seemingly nothing...

    American serama thread!

Sorry about disappearing on everyone! I haven't gotten much sleep the past couple nights, and today I was preoccupied with some storms coming through. The good news is, I GOT FOUR CHICKS! I ended up having to assist the little guy that pipped in the middle of his egg. He hadn't made any progress...

Okie dokie. Thanks for the advice guys! I hear peeping coming from a bunch of eggs, including the one that pipped in the middle of the shell. I definitely wasn't going to assist within the next 24 hours, especially if he makes progress on his own. It's just that he pipped smack dab in the middle...

Woke up a few hours ago to find not only one, but TWO eggs have externally pipped! Today is only day 20, so the others still have plenty of time! I do have one question though. One of the eggs that pipped... he pipped in the middle of the shell. Do you think he'll be able to zip on his own? How...

Hello everybody, just catching up on the thread. I'm so, so sorry to hear about Stormy. That just breaks my heart. A little over an hour ago my eggs were put into lockdown. Nine eggs out of sixteen have made it this far and are looking great! It feels like I had a lot of quitters, but this IS...

I'll throw my two cents in and can vouch that Charlie's eggs are beautiful. Shipping from Washington all the way to Alabama, I was a little scared that a couple eggs might get damaged in transit, but they were packed SO WELL, not a single egg even had a hairline crack! I was even given four...

I should probably finish reading the thread before I reply, shouldn't I! :P I let the eggs rest in room temperature for about twelve hours, upright in their egg cartons, once they arrived in the mail. I actually didn't turn them for 24 hours after going into the incubator because I had read...

Oh, no, I've been turning them, three times a day! I've just been switching the sides at which they're leaning. They're marked with x's and o's, and all that good stuff! The egg carton holes are so big compared to the eggs that they're actually probably sitting at more of a 60 degree angle...

    American serama thread!

Hey guys! I just wanted to pop in and ask a quick question about my incubating eggs. My batch has been incubating for a full seven days now, and I just candled them to mark where the air cells were. The problem was.. I had a really hard time seeing any. I'm scared to turn the eggs on their side...

    American serama thread!

Thanks for your reply! I honestly hope at least two of these sixteen eggs hatch, as I know how hard it is for one lone chick to thrive (I've had to foster baby wild birds before where there was just one.. It was difficult for everyone involved). I know if at least two hatch, I would get so...

I agree, everyone here has been super helpful and extremely nice. I'll be sure to post egg updates! I love reading everyone else's hatching updates as well. Seeing those little eggs and chicks just makes my heart melt.
