One of my girls likes to take a looooooong time laying her egg. I mean like 2 hours.
Lately, it's been more like 4 hours of her being on the nest. I know because I have a cam in the coop on the nesting boxes.
Last night, before I went to bed I went out to check on them and found her in one...
So I have 2 girls, one is a chocolate cuckoo orpington and the other is a blue orpington.
They. Are. So. Loud. In. The. Mornings. WHY?!?!?
The blue Orpington (Bertha) usually lays her eggs around 8am, meanwhile the chocolate orpington (Rick The Chick) is in the yard being loud and obnoxious...
One of my girls takes about 20 minutes to lay.
The other girl takes almost 2 hours. She'll be in the nesting box for a very long time, why?
I've gone and checked on her when I'm home, she's not broody or anything she just takes a long time to do the deed. Why? I also have a live cam on the...
One of my girls has been laying eggs with what I think, correct me if i'm wrong, is a bunch of calcium deposits? (See picture below)
What can I do to remedy that?
There's also been a few times in the past week that she laid a soft egg. What causes that?
She's a Chocolate Cuckoo Orpington...
Our hen has started to honk like a goose in the morning. She will normally stop after laying an egg. She is REALLY noisy and we don't want the neighbors complaining. Any suggestions?
My girls just started laying eggs recently, when cracking one open this morning we noticed it had some white layer beneath the shell.
What does this mean?
That's crazy! I had no idea, that makes so much sense though.
Rick The Chick is very quiet and reserved, Bertha is a loud girl.
This might be a stupid question, but would they ever lay together? We have 2 boxes, would they ever line up and do the deed together?
So my girls just started laying within the past couple weeks. They're on the same cycle pretty much, laying the same day just a couple hours apart which is great!
My problem is that Bertha lays her egg first, then goes out into the yard...and is soooo loud because she wait's for Rick The Chick...
Okay, I understand where you're talking about. I will get to that.
Do i keep the decoy eggs in there until she does it? Or do I gather them every day and put them back in there?
Good idea, but that would be in the way of my door that I was going to make to grab the eggs out of the boxes on the left side. Plus, wouldn't they roost on that bar and poop in the boxes? I had to move my original roosting bar back a little bit for that reason.
I put one egg in each box then tossed her in there...
Right idea?
We found 2 rogue eggs in the yard this morning, I think she laid them within the last couple days out there.
