a digital meter with a probe would work but I want to keep the number of batteries and disposal thereof to a minimum. if I could find a "meat thermometer" of the proper temp range for incubating, poking it through the side of the bator would be a good option but cannot locate one locally and do...
I expect to have a full egg turner in my incubator and want to use a supplemental calibrated thermometer but room will be tight. Would it be OK for the thermometer to rest on top of the eggs or will that interfere with the movement of the egg turner and possible damage the eggs?
My incubator temperature is not consistent. It will be fine for a few days, then the temp will be a few degrees too high or too low. Do I have a defective thermostat. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
I do use a turner. Is it best to suspend the probe from the cover somehow? How often is it recommended to check the calibrated thermo with the control board temp?
Thanks for the reply. the 'bator temp sensor is on a wire that can be positioned where you want inside the 'bator. The built in sensor is about the same horizontal and vertical distance from the heater.
I have an inexpensive incubator (Little Giant from TSC) with a fan. The built in digital thermometer on the incubator says 101 degrees but the supplementary thermometer I put in the incubator is reading 97 degrees. I calibrated the supplementary thermometer using the ice water bath method and it...
Last year I bought a few "BLRW" chicks and got a nearly solid red rooster, a pretty nice black laced hen and the black laced rooster in the attached photo. He also has some feathering on his shanks. I am new to this developing breed. I am assuming he should not be used for breeding but wanted...
I have another Black Laced Red that looks similar to the one in the photo. It actually has some blue lacing too, but also has feathered shanks. I guess the best use of these roos would be to put them in the stew pot?
I bought a few chicks at a small animal swap and they were sold as BLRWs. This is my first experience with them. Not sure if they are really BLRW. Maybe the blue lacing does not show up until the plumage develops more? I will upload a couple of photos. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I have two pullets that could be laying now. One of them has started laying but not sure which one. One is a German Bielefelder and the other, I think is a Lavender Orp (as a chick the breeder claimed it was a blue maran; WRONG, WRONG, WRONG). Anyway, one of these pullets just started laying and...
