One and a half year old Buff Orpington died early this morning. No signs of any trauma... she was sitting in her favorite spot, in a newly scratched out hole. She had seemed healthy yesterday, and my three other hens are all healthy. Sad day, she was too young!

I finally have chicks again! Brought home 4 pullets today... Black Sex Link, Black Austrolorpe, Buff Orpington & Rhode Island Red. Got them at the 27 Feed Store in Ridgeville. Great store, great deal!

I am looking for a fun event in the next few months where I can bring my young daughters so they can pick out our new chicks. Does anyone know if there will be any shows or auctions in South Carolina, or of any ideas to make buying chicks a fun family event?

After speaking with a poultry farmer in Awendaw, I have sadly decided to wait until spring to get my chicks. I'll have more choices, and will likely get the breeds I am looking for.

Thanks for the advice! I checked out MyPetChicken, but I live far from a major city, so I think my minimum is higher than 3. I have requested a catalog from Meyer, and their web site has the breeds I am looking for, so may just order from them.
