    Little giant or Hovabator?

I got a little giant with fan and egg turner for christmas. Just used it for the first time and hatched 40 of 44 eggs. Much better than the old incubator I had.

could someone post a pic of a red sex link? are they good for laying?

Here is a picture of the chicks we hatched over the weekend. Do you think they are red stars? They look a lot like the picture Jean posted. I thought the black ones were a mistake, but mine look like the ones in that picture. What do you guys think?

What are we??? Supposed to be red comets, but some are black!

Last spring I bought a bunch of white plymouth rock pullets and a pair a NH Reds, with the idea of hatching some golden comets. They were in the coop with my other hens which are comets and aracuanas and a rooster that looks like a barred rock. He may be a mix though because he was given to me...

When Do I remove the vent plug??

I just had that same problem. I posted it here and a couple of people wrote back. I had the plugs in for the first 16 days which I now believe was the wrong way of doing it. I took them out on day 16 when I realized the directions said to take them out in the beginning set up. After getting...

Is there such a thing as too much humidity?

I took the cheesecloth back out. As soon as I read your reply I thought you would be right about them getting hung up in it or trying to eat the thread. They do eat everything that they aren't supposed to! Thanks for the suggestion. I also took of the two plugs out of the incubator cover...

    Gathering eggs for the bator

I kept mine in the regular egg cartons, big end up. I kept them at 55-60 degrees. I set one end of each box on a spare egg carton going the opposite direction and just switched which end was up twice a day (morning and night). I had to gather for five days to have enough to fill the...

Is there such a thing as too much humidity?

My eggs are on day 18-19 now. I took them out of the turner this morning and layed them on cheesecloth on the grate. They are staying the correct temperature, but there is a lot of condensation on the viewing windows. So much that I can't see the eggs through it. I lifted the cover to check...

    Little Giant & Humidity plugs

Thanks for the help. I put the plugs back in today (day 17) and noticed condensation on the glass a short time later. Hopefully that means the humidity is high enough. I don't have a hygrometer yet, but will have to get one before I attempt to hatch again.

    Little Giant & Humidity plugs

I am new to your group, but it looks like you guys have a lot of knowledge. This is my second attempt at hatching in an incubator. I had an old junky one last year and hatched only 11 of 48 eggs. Worse yet ... nine of them were roosters. Now I have a new Little Giant with the turners and the...
