    My First Chicks (pics)

These are my first chicks. They're Rhode Island Reds at 3 weeks old. I got them for $2 each. Do you think that's a good price? The lady had thousands! This first one is priceless. One thing I've learned.. They're stinky little things lol

What made you decide to get chickens?

I don't want to contribute to animal cruelty. I always felt guilty buying my eggs from the store knowing where they came from. It's so sad how some people treat animals. I'm an animal lover and thought raising chickens would be a good idea. I really think it's a great experience. & it keeps...

    OMGOMGOMGOMG>>>>>> UPDATE!:

Would you shoot it if it was your own dog eating your chickens? I feel really bad for both the chickens and the dog. I don't think the neighbors needed to get so rude though. I couldn't have shot the dog. I would have broken them up in some other way.

I was so excited to find the first egg out there! I've never seen so many chicken lovers. It's nice to see so many people as interested in...

What kind of chickens are these?

Quote: The only thing is.. I thought Welsummers have very dark eggs. The eggs I have been getting form these chickens are light brown like in the picture.

Twin Tier Poultry Club Auction Saturday May 9th at 9:30am Bath, NY

I went and bought a couple Welsummers (although I didn't know that they were Welsummers until I posted a picture on here lol). This was the first time I've been to a poultry auction. I was really looking for some full grown Rhode Island Reds but only saw the chicks. I wish the guy was a little...

What kind of chickens are these?

I bought these chickens for egg laying at a poultry auction here in NY and they never told me anything about the chickens. I'd like to know what kind of chickens they are and how old they are. They lay light brown eggs. They are calm, quiet, and friendly. So far we've found 2 eggs in 3 days...
