she does it all the time. i notice it might increase in frequency if she's excited or has been moving around, but it is all the time. even roosting at night.
This is my 4 year hen who has been doing this for about 2 weeks now. She seems fine otherwise...eating, drinking, and moving. She is panting bc despite water mister and multiple fans and shade and cold water...it is 105 in texas. any ideas? i couldn't upload the video except to the "gallery"...
I have a 4 year old hen who has been doing this for 2 weeks. she eats and drinks just fine. energy seems normal...except it is 105 in austin, so everyone is HOT. i don't see anything in her throat.
I think i need to do what you guys said and irrigate it with normal saline to clear it out and hope to let the tissue begin to close.
thank you all. it helps me so much to read all this. so here we are now...a week or two or more later. the hole scabbed over and she seemed to be doing better...
thank you all. it helps me so much to read all this. so here we are now...a week or two or more later. the hole scabbed over and she seemed to be doing better (roosting, moving around, bullying her sisters). then i found her yesterday evening in the egg laying box instead of roosting pole...
FYI: It's not gangrene. it is the purple wound cote spray that looks darker in places
Background on this sweet chicken:
always has a dirty butt from poop. i hadn't cleaned it in a while and noticed she wasn't feeling well - this was about 2 weeks ago. When i cleaned her up, she had a huge...
I feed them Scratch n Peck organic layer feed (16% protein I think). They have a few handfuls of mealworms most days split between 11 chickens. They free range during the day and locked up at night.
Hi my 3 year old Barred Rock is acting normal, but she is red and swollen under her vent. She is eating, drinking and acting normal. I don't know if she has layed an egg recently or not, but the swollen area is squishy, not hard. I did see one little tan mite when I was taking pics up close...
I don't notice any odor, so I am guessing it's fowl pox...plus the timing of the others having dry pox is too coincidental. Does it bleed alot? I am scared, but willing.
Our favorite hen has this yellow plaque mass (picture taken today) since June 15th (so 5 weeks now). A few of my other hens had dry pox at the same time I noticed this, but their dry pox have long since healed. So wet pox? I have given her elderberry, thyme, vitamins, probiotics, VetRx, ACV...
The coop is approximately 3 feet by 11 feet. They roam in daylight hours in the fenced forest behind the coop (I open a hatch-you can see handle on far right white part) that is probably 40 feet by 20 feet, plus have access to the coop itself. I close it at dusk.
I'm out of ideas to incorporate a flock of 9 month old pullets (4 of them) with some 3 year old chickens (4 of them). The bigs bully/attack the littles.
I tried letting them co-exist with a hardware cloth separating them for a week. I tried putting them in at night. By the time I got to them...
