advancing through the year....we now have about 30 some odd ducks. and counting. I am very busy with my business and family medical concerns. I don't get on here much. The ducks are almost my only form of entertainment and only hobby. thank goodness for duckies.
We moved a muscovy mom and her...
That is a CUTE drake and I'd give anything for a cuddling duck!
Our muscovy Tinkerbell hatched some mallard babies today sometime, more muscovies to come. We are watching them closely. :) Will take photos tomorrow. We have another mallard laying on a mystery nest some where. We're going to be...
I didn't use to love the mallards so much. They never really relax with you. Now though, I'd be sad to live without them. They are hilarious to watch, always busy, always something to say and in fact, they know what we want them to do when it's time go back in the pen, etc. :)
Okay....that's what I'll do! Before getting your responses I put food and water as close as possible to both their nests...so hopefully everyone will take care of each other and themselves.
After another day or two I can just take the unhatched eggs away and call it good, right? I'm pretty...
Muscovy Hatching Question:
Had 3 nests. Tinkerbell wins the Mom Prize. All eggs hatched, currently swimming with her babies in the pond. The other two moms need help.
Both of the other nests have three ducklings hatched yesterday and maybe one or two the day before. It's time for the...
you took the words right out of my keyboard.
I have all the same questions. We got a couple African geese about 10 days ago. They are very charming. I totally want them to a) eat grass and b) make noise if someone is after the ducks. Otherwise, cute silence. *crossing fingers*
Happy to...
Broody Muscovies
I'm a little overwhelmed with the potential for poop and too many birds. We have three nesting muscovies right now. yikes.
question: the females have always been completely peaceful. All day today they have been after each other. Or at least the broody moms are after the...
it looks like we are getting a couple African goslings today. any advice on imprinting? introducing them to the rest of the flock? if we keep them in the house and show them lots of attention, and they get comfortable with the other animals will that work? I'm hoping so. I'd LOVE for them to...
I hope it's okay to ask these questions here...
Are American Buff geese loud all the time, or just when there's reason to honk, like a visitor or some such. I'm reading they are calm...
I'm also reading they will "eat weeds." This is a big interest of mine. Will they eat our grass/lawn...
since this last post I've grown to appreciate Sarah, the rouen, even more. She talks cute, is happy to be flocking with the baby mallards, and is indeed, laying beautiful xl eggs every day. It's a good idea having the muscovy ladies hatch some rouen ducklings for us. I'm maxed on birds, but over...
I've read a bunch of threads and googled...still unclear on some things.
Some of those things have to do with the mixed flock our mixed flock.
When I collected these Muscovies last fall I was getting "ducks." I didn't know they were "Muscovy" nor did I know they were going to end up being...
