Thanks! I was just so surprised to see it out there, and then to see that she didn't come off the roost to do it. I know they don't sleep all night, but I just figured she would have come down to lay it if she was awake...LOL!
Is this possible? My girls are brand new layers, well, I got one egg 2 days ago, and that was it). Went to let them out/clean the coop, and an egg is on the floor. I watched the camera and it wasn't there in the video taken 4 minutes prior. The girls were all still up on the roost bar. Will this...
So excited to get our first egg today!! It was laid in the run, so I hope she figures out laying in the boxes. So happy!! We think it is from our Golden Comet.
Thanks! We are lucky lately to get any snow at all...usually a lot less than a foot. I was going to support it with a frame. So if I sink the posts, there's not much chance of it getting blown away? Sorry, I freaked as I watched my little run almost go flying away, so I'm super nervous....
I want to make my little run taller so I can walk in it, and put a roof on it. I had a tarp on it, but our first big wind storm tried to make it a parachute and I almost lost the entire small run. I want to attach the roof to the big run (6 ft high), and have it go down to 5 1/2 feet (if that is...
My chicks are 11 weeks old and have been roosting on the top bar since I put them in the coop at 7 weeks. I just opened the nest boxes to them today. I have an Easter egg in each box (does it matter that they are colored?). Should I part the curtains for a while so they see they are open? I know...
It doesn't have enough ventilation for my liking (working on how to fix it, want to put a window in the big door side, but the panels in the door are free-floating, so I have to be careful). Here's my coop:
I want to make a window in this side to match the one above, but the boards are...
Installed a fan in the coop yesterday. What is your temperature threshold for turning it on? I don't want to make it too chilly for them (it's 68 F in there right now).
Pics of two of my girls, just cause I love them so much. 😁
When did you put a roosting bar in? I put one in with my chicks at 3 weeks, and they checked it out/started using it (but not using it at night). They are in the coop full-time now and use the bar every night. Might just take them some time to figure it out. :)
Thanks!! All great photography is thanks to my son...he is amazing! So glad they are all pullets...we have been worried that they wouldn't be, and I didn't want to have to give any of them up...LOL.
Made a garden area around the small run. Still have a little to do to it (like adding better soil to part of it and planting), but super happy it is done. Strawberries, peppers, and tomatoes will be in the L shaped one, and herbs will be in the Planters.
Well, I'm only allowed 6 by my county (no roosters), so my math can't explode...lol! But my house is an animal house...2 dogs, 3 guinea pigs, a whole bin of composting worms, we foster dogs, and the 5 chicks....my husband said no more animals...lol!
