Vintage Incubator- $20 at church rummage sale

The tag said $20 and the man in charge said to make him an offer, but we paid the $20. I couldn't believe my good luck. I just hope someone could tell me more about it.

Vintage Incubator- $20 at church rummage sale

So we went rummaging today, and we found this gem at a local church rummage sale for only $20! I opened the door of the unit and someone had found some info, probably from an old catalog, and printed it out. There are parts in the printout that are missing from the unit, and it doesn't seem to...

    Bachelor Pad for Roosters?

I have two pens, one attached to the chicken coop, and one in the backyard for the goats, ducks, geese, and turkeys. My extra roosters go to the back pen until they meet their demise. My gander is the peacekeeper, and will quickly settle any disputes with the young males. It's more of a grow out...

    Rooster Troubles

If you find a home for the dominant cockerel, the calm one will most likely step up and display similar behavior as the dominant one. You need to fix your ratio of Pullets/Cockerels. One Cockerel for 10 hens. Speaking from experience, I had a sweet boy, and I culled his competition and just kept...

Some advice on possibly culling my first cockerel.

Sounds like a normal hormonal teenager to me, he's young and trying to figure out how to keep his ladies in line. As long as he isn't attacking people, let him do his job. A few more hens wouldn't hurt but make sure they are similar in age or older than the ones you already have.

EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

A little advice please! I will try and keep it short. I have a blue ameraucana who pipped the wrong end of the egg(shipped egg) at day 19, and zipped itself free today (day 20), but when it kicked out of the egg, the yolk was not fully absorbed and there was a lot of bleeding. As soon as I...

    Farm innovator 4250 users

I have the farm innovator 4250 with turner and I found it to be off by 1 degree and 5% humidity. Took me forever to calibrate it because all three of my thermometers/hygros said something different. So frustrating when you have eggs needing to be set. I have burned myself on the hot metal of the...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

My BBS are starting to hatch. This one pipped the wrong end and is early (day 19). It pipped through a vessel and the chick was gurgling on fluid, not sure if blood or something else, so I dabbed around it's mouth with the corner of a paper towel. It's still moving and opening and closing it's...

Have I done all I can for this little one?

OK, I will change out the water, it's not like he's drinking it anyways. I don't have any yogurt and the store is 45 minutes away, so I am not driving out there for just yogurt for a chick. I tried raising the heat lamp to cool it off, and he huddled in the corner closest he could get to the...

Have I done all I can for this little one?

I received shipped chicks last Wednesday from Cackle. 17 bantams total. I lost 4 in shipping, and another 3 in the next two days. They all looked DOA and were very cold. I am down to 10 chicks now, and one is a runt. He has very little feather growth and is tiny compared to his flock mates. I...
