EE is not a breed. I trust you know this. Breeds, by definition, breed true. EEs are birds that generally lay blue/green eggs, and look somewhat Amer-ish. There is no way to tell for sure by looking at a bird that appears to be an Amer if it is, indeed, a purebred Amer.
When I look at the McMurray site, and click on cuckoo marans, it says you can order females, males or straight run. I just checked again.
Yes, I'd like to get some dark egg stock, but am wary of the inbreeding level accumulated by many amateur breeders. Also, it's complicated to get stock from...
Has anyone bought cuckoo Marans from McMurray? How is the egg colour? I understand that most cuckoo Marans in NA have paler eggs than the original breed (or other varieties), but wonder how much paler? A pale as a barred rock, or as a Welsummer?
Thanks for any info.
No, no generic as far as I know. Dosage for a bantam would be about 0.25 ml, so that's 1000 doses in a 250 ml bottle. $39 is cheap! costs twice that up here.
If you're not worried about eggs or meat, then go for the Ivermectin.
Eprinex is what our vet here recommends.
For leg imtes, any oil...
Eprinex (slightly different from Ivermectin, but a related chemical) is the best. In Canada, you can get it from a vet - not sure about the US. It definitely kills all parasites, including mites, lice, scaly leg mites and worms, and there's no withdrawal time, you can eat the eggs right away...
Two thing scome to mind. Parasites? Is it possible they have mites? Have you checked? THat can make them washed out-looking.
You say half the flock is outside - is this outside in a caged run, or outside and free ranging? If the latter, they may be hiding their eggs.
Or they may just not have...
Tailfeathers - I was trying to keep it simple, so only discussed the one locus that was of interest, but still get the basic genetics out there. An EE can either an OO or an Oo genotype, so one can't generalise about its offspring the way one can about a purebred.
I said "blue/green" to mean...
Sonoran sikies is right. If the hen has either one or two copies of the blue gene then she will lay blue or green eggs. If either her mother or her father was a pure Ameraucana, she will definintely lay blue or green eggs, no matter what her other parent was. If one parent was an EE, and the...
