What would attack a chicken and leave a pile of feathers like this?

In our case, the goat never repeated the action and a hawk was the culprit. Since then we've had a couple of similar attacks from the air, but thankfully no chickens have been truly harmed.

I'm wondering what the long term outcome was for Bella? Did she outgrow the seizures?

    Welsh Harlequin

The one in front sure looks like a Rouen Duck. http://www.cacklehatchery.com/rouenpage.html and the one in back a young Welsh Harlequin Gold phase.

I hope that your move goes smoothly, Morgen. I think that the anti-Californian sentiment has faded in the last 20 years. In the 80s many Californians brought their money from the profit of homes sold in California and bought the nicest homes here sparking jealousy. It was a real problem in some...

We had to carry a hen back in today, too. They don't seem to care for the snow at all.

Share your pictures of Dust/Dirt Baths

I bet the girls would love your Florida sand, but they are pretty content with what they have, too. Bath time seems to be the one time that the Wyandottes don't peck at the Orpingtons.

    The EE braggers thread!!!

Our EE's were the last to lay their first eggs at 6 1/2 months. We have a timer on the coop light set to come on at 5 a.m. so that they all get the needed hours of light to keep laying. Sadie laid a huge double yolker one day.

    Welsh Harlequin

We, too, are excited about the prospect of new life this coming spring and in anticipation we are preparing a home for ducks. Maybe it shouldn't be a post here, but how big should the door be to the new quacker house?

No, but I've vacationed in Canada twice in my life and loved it : ) We live in Clackamas County, Oregon, so maybe a road trip to SW Washington would be in order : ) Is there a way to send private messages?

    Welsh Harlequin

Jasper is so very pretty! We would like to get two or three Welsh Harlequin ducklings this spring. Can someone tell me of a local breeder? Our local supplier of chicks and ducklings doesn't offer them.

What would attack a chicken and leave a pile of feathers like this?

Thankfully, our night time lock up is very secure. I am pretty sure that someday the ten year old will see something on the dinner table that he can't resist (and can't name) and he will return to eating chicken. Thanksgiving will be interesting seeing if he takes a serving of turkey. He is the...
