    muscovy attack...

I've only ever had the second biggest drake try and do anything to me, basically I was throwing some food out for them and he was trying to grab my hand before I opened it, and then he'd keep looking at the hand and not eat. What can I say, animals just need to be put in line. He only did it...

Quick question on Muscovy ducks and laying

The big brown drake will come up to check on the hen in the morning, and sort of just cruises around before going back to the lake. Outside temperatures at night are sitting around the 2-4C mark, daytime temps well below 15C, average has been 10C. The ducks are free to roam, they have an island...

Quick question on Muscovy ducks and laying

So anyway, within the last few days(yesterday, I believe), one/a few ducks laid 3 eggs, and another one today. They were temporarily handled(carefully, with gloves, and only the first 3 before the 4th was laid) to put some hay under them(they were laid directly on the blue gravel, so this was...

I need advice on dealing with a big fat murderous raccoon!

I have no experience with raccoons, however I'd suggest blasting it with both barrels of the shotty. If you don't like killing animals, a small piece of freshly cut chicken with some poison stuffed in it should do the trick, no need for a fresh carcass to go to waste on some pest animal.

Australians - Where are you all????

From the Greater Bendigo area, Victoria. It's p**sing down with rain right now, hope the ducks are ok :p Chickens should be snug in their shed.

Quote: It's small, thats for sure. As for deadliness, from what I have heard, getting stung by it makes you want to die. Compared to its larger box jellyfish cousins, this one won't kill yu outright, it'll just keep you in pain for 2 weeks straight, even with the most morphine they can give...

    Drake attacking other ducks?

Seperate watering areas? They live in a 40x40 meter farm dam Its only happened recently so I'll take your thoughts that he is just being a jerk because he wants to make babies. I guess after the eggs have been laid/hatched he should calm down a bit?

Baby and Daddy rooster in the same coop?

Haha forgot to add, we got another 8 or 9 hens I think, unrelated to the current ones. The baby is usually head first into the compost heap with the hens, eating all the bugs and veges and what have you. The rooster normally just stays in the coop, doesn't really move much. If he does wander out...

Perhaps a little far from the average BYC member 7 ducks(Muscovy I think, not too sure) and....10 chickens I think, for now. Unknown breed roosters(2, the baby one is like a younger clone of its father) 3 White Leghorn/New Hampshire cross(White chickens) 3 Australorp/New Hampshire cross(black...

    Drake attacking other ducks?

Owell, I'm pretty sure he is the drakes son, and the big brown one is unknown. Wait and see what time does I guess.

    Drake attacking other ducks?

So we have this big, white, drake(he is *huge*). Recently(past day or two) he has been attacking the "baby" ducks(by baby I mean maybe 4-5 month old ducks, age is unsure as they came with the house, but they weren't that big when we moved in). It's roughly mid-winter if that helps. It only...

    I culled yesterday.

Look on the bright side, you won't have to deal with (insert number of chickens here) being sick and having to kill them, too.

Baby and Daddy rooster in the same coop?

When we moved to this place there was a full-grown rooster, 2 hens and a baby. The baby turned out to be a rooster, and is now I'd guess 14-17 weeks old. The 2 roosters get along fine, but I'm just wondering if they will fight as he gets older? The daddy rooster appears to have an injury with...
