Huge gullet-what should I do for this chick?

Is the crop squishy like a water ballon or hard and compacted? I would withhold feed for about 6-12 hours and see if it gets smaller to make sure there isn't a blockage and that the crop is emptying. If it isn't emptying then look up impacted crops and see if that fits.

Another update. Been tube feeding every 4 hours. So far Kevin has gone from 580g to 700g in 18hrs. So much perkier and the phlegmy sounds are very rare now. Not very excited for tube feeding anymore, and i look at the resisting as a good thing. When I say her name she actually cheeps back now...

Update: little guy (ok girl) weighed 580g. Tube fed 20cc of starter crumble dust mixed with pedialyte. Weighed 610g after feeding. Will repeat in a few hours. Now to figure out how much duramycin to administer for body weight daily so I can just add to soupy mixture I'm tubing.

I wish I still had tylan on hand, I had a bunch from the cattle but it went bad so threw it out. Only tylan I can find on my island is the bigger $50 bottle... At this point I think I'm going I have to start tube feeding him. He has lost almost another ounce since yesterday. I opened up his...

Our vet sees chickens, but has the mindset of running every test under the sun because they don't see them very often. I live on an island and I highly doubt city vets would even know where to start. I have a prevet degree so can understand everything and how certain types of meds work for...

Definitely not a bantam. His sisters and brothers were all roughly 4lbs a few weeks ago. He just doesn't eat to much, just enough to get by. Usually scarfs scrambled eggs but even then not as feeding frenzied as all my other chickens. He is just very laid back, almost as if something just isn't...

Please help! Pullet is very sick!

Yep. 15 weeks old as of Wednesday. Like I said, a little runty. He got sick around 7 weeks old or so and I figured cocci but didn't treat for it until 10 weeks old. No bloody poops ever but was lethargic, stopped eating etc. Never seemed to really catch up after that. Been treated for cocci...

my new Roo, and 2 egg layer pullets

With that coloring though it would be a girl. By about 3 weeks old the boys start growing black feathers. Hens stay cream colored.

Kevin is actually a girl, a lavender orpington. I thought he was a boy when he was young due to feathering so named him Kevin after the bird in the movie Up. Definitely a girl now though, has nice round feathers growing in. Just so used to saying him and he, it stuck. He made it through the...

That white and brown one looks like a salmon faverolle to me. Those droopy saddle feathers are suspicious since that's the hen coloring but other than that pretty girly looking to me.

Well he has started sort of gargling, like he has phlegm in his chest but there are no sounds in the lungs. Not sure if its fluid coming up from crop maybe? Crop is pretty empty again, had filled up a bit with the water and eggs I forced him to swallow but at least it's emptying. But he is...

Please help! Pullet is very sick!

From my research, Corid at a lower dose like the levels medicated chick starter has are more of a preventative of a large outbreak (it inhibits the cocci from being able to uptake an amino acid they need to survive). At higher dosages it is able to kill off the larger populations that cause...

Poop has up until today been normal. Well formed, normal cecals. Today, rather watery with light green loose/gooey somewhat formed solids but I figure the not eating is to blame. I used one teaspoon of the 20% powder in 1000ml (he has a large rabbit water bottle). Generally made every day...

Please help! Pullet is very sick!

Already treated with Corid twice now, once at 10 weeks old and again about a week ago (the end date of treatment was a week ago). I'm wondering if it is possibly a bacterial infection? For about 2 months now he has just sort of gotten by. Not healthy exactly but not dying either. Happily has...

My favorite chicken Kevin (15 weeks old) was not doing very good when I checked in him about an hour ago. He has always been a bit runty, but today he never left his dog box, and isn't eating or drinking on his own. He had a poopy butt so I gave him a bath and blow dried before putting him...
