Lazy J Farms Feed & Hay :
This is an easy one.
Keep your birds on your property with an appropriate fence then you won't have to worry about her being mad about the chickens eating her plants. After all, they are YOUR birds so the should stay on YOUR property.
Pretty simple, really.
Jim...
know what you mean. I went with field fence with T posts and then ran 2 foot chicken wire along the bottom on 2 sides, will do the rest if needed.
yep, thats what we're doing, inside the forest along the property line so the thick foliage will be a deterent from flying over it.
We've never had...
I know, I know,...DH and I are now talking about what kind of fencing we can put up that will keep them on our side. Its just so frustrating...one of the reasons we moved rural was to get away from annoying nosey neighbors. And a wild dog has already come onto our property and killed our roo...
We live in a rural area on 1/2 acre and the only folks on our road are us and the next door anti-chicken neighbor. The reason I know she's anti-chicken is the neighbor on the road behind us said she called the county on his next door friend who had "too many".
Ok, so our hens have been free...
They have a fan they sell seperate at Dells, we probably will go with that if we decide to hatch more eggs. Right now they're cozy enough in the homemade bator lol
Hope your coming hatch goes well
haha, yes! Amazing the difference in temps just by driving 30 minutes. The charter school sounds awesome. We moved here last Oct from Oahu and learned that folks have been on the waiting list for years. Good for you!
Aloha!

Hey Christie! We've been thinking of ordering hatching eggs from the mainland too. Not sure yet, maybe we will just get a local boy for our girls
Good luck with the incubating! Did you get your bator from Dell's? We've been looking at the one they carry.
Aloha Christie! We are up in Volcano...brrr LOL.
we are incubating too, our first batch and wondering if they are fertile as our roo was killed 3 weeks ago
Good to see other Hawaii folks on here
I'm no chicken expert, but we have RIR's too and got ours when they were 2 weeks old. It looks to me like they were probably about 5-6 wks when ya got them which would put them at around 2 1/2 months old now. As far as telling the gender you'll need to wait a few more weeks. We started seeing...
its now day 5 and it looks the same with some little bubbles around the dark mass
I guess I'll just keep 'em and see if anything develops. Our roo was killed 3 weeks ago and I don't know if these eggs are even fertile. Just hoping they are.
The camera wont take good enough pics in the dark...
Hi, I'm new to this and wondering what I'm looking at in our egg. When I candle I see a dark mass that moves when I move the egg. Like its floating with some tiny bubbles along with it. I'll try and get a pic.
Its day 3 and it looks a little larger than on day 1, but don't see any veins or...
My hens don't like the rosemary or the lavender, but go after the basil and cilantro when they can. I agree with the others, they know what to eat and not eat.
