    Worm in egg

Also, is it common for worms to show up inside the egg? I thought they were passed through feces.

    Worm in egg

No, she didn't fish it out. I believe it went right into the trash and the breakfast menu was changed to oatmeal. I live on an island and don't have access to any stores today, however, I have to go to the mainland tomorrow so will visit the Tractor Supply store and see what they have. Thanks.

    Worm in egg

My daughter-in-law sent me this picture today. The egg is from my flock - the while powder is flour for pancakes. That sure loos like a worm in the egg to me. I didn't know that chickens could pass worms in their eggs. I cracked t10 more eggs this morning all from the last 24 hours and...

Why Do You Use Deep Bedding/Why Do You NOT Use Deep Bedding?

I started using the deep litter system this year after reading about it here. My coop is 4 x 8 and elevated about a foot off of the ground. Picture attached. I have 8 chickens. I add an inch or so of fresh shavings every week or so and leave the maintenance to the birds. I do clean out the...

Help! My wife is mad at me for feeding the chickens pizza!

The owner of the market in my town saves all kinds of scraps that she gives me for my chickens - mostly veggies but sometimes a slice or two of pizza. The girls eat it all except for the celery - been doing this for years and hasn't killed any chickens yet. They do get a regular diet of...

Transitioning from roofed to roofless run

Good for you and your fellow chicken owners! I was about to write a post suggesting just the thing you did when I saw this. We had a similar incident where I live when and aquaculture business put a small light on the raft of mussel farm to alert boats at night that it was there. The 'new guy...

Transitioning from roofed to roofless run

This is what I have covering my chicken run (10' x 20'). It is light weight plastic and comes in dark green or black. It's held on by wire ties. As I sit here looking out the window at the run, I can hardly tell that anything is covering it. The only problem I have ever had with it is that is...

    Auracauna stopped laying blue eggs

Do Auracaunas stop laying blue eggs? I have two Auracauna hens that I know were laying blue eggs. One was given to me to foster when her home coop was attacked by a mink. Within a day I was getting small blue eggs. Several weeks later I bought another adult Auracauna from a man at a feed...

Injured hen - what to do?

It looks as if one of the hens has been attacked by something - maybe an owl. Found her hunkered down under a bush in the yard. She was having trouble standing and had a cut near one eye. No other obvious wounds. I took her inside and checked her over - she kept falling over when she stood up...
