    WOOD DUCKS

Yes, starter crumble. I have a male wood duck that will be a year old in just a week or so.

how do ducks show they love you?

That's funny! Mine will do that too - forage in our hair, never mind stick their bills in our shirts and such - they'll stick their heads and necks in our shirts and try to climb in...lol. They are cute and we love our babies too. Never knew ducks could be such awesome pets.

how do ducks show they love you?

It all started for me this past May after finding an orphaned duck. When she was about 5 or 6 weeks old we got 2 Silver Appleyard minis of about the same age to keep her company and I built an outdoor coop from scratch. The orphaned duck definitely imprinted on me and loves to cuddle and will...

    Duck Enclosure & More Ducks

Here is my completed Duck Enclosure, with a deck box converted into a Duck "House", and my 3 ducks. We planted some spices (oregano, mint, & parsley) and kale in a flower box and put it into the enclosure for the ducks to munch on. All the kale and much of the spices have been eaten. Looks...

    Corn Cob Bedding!

I used wee-wee puppy pads for my duckling up until she was about 3 weeks old. Then I switched to pine shavings. Had no problems.

    Duck Enclosure & More Ducks

It took a few days, but it looks like my wood duck and the 2 mini Appleyard ducklings I bought a few days ago are getting along ok. First couple of days the woodie didn't want anything to do with the other 2 and would hide in a corner of the box. But now they're looking like everyducky is good...

    Duck Enclosure & More Ducks

I'll be using some polyurethane roofing panels to cover half of it and hardware cloth for the other half, which I'm adding with a pool not seen in the pics. I've decided to double the size of the enclosure. Thanks for the input.

    Duck Enclosure & More Ducks

This week I just started building a duck enclosure for my 3 ducks. Yes, we bought 2 mini appleyard ducklings (pic attached) to keep our wood duck company. So I was just looking for some advice regarding their future living area as they do not have all their feathers yet. My understanding is...

    5 Week Old Wood Duck

I posted about 3 weeks ago regarding an orphaned wood duck that my wife and I were raising. The duck is now 5 weeks old and we have been feeding it the MannaPro Gamebird/Showbird Crumbles. At what point should I change it's food to something with less protein in it and what are some examples...

First time hatching ducklings need help!

How are your wood duck ducklings? I rescued one and it is about 4 weeks old now and doing well. How old and how big are they now?

In love with a rescued mallard duckling. Can we keep her?

My wife and I are in a somewhat similar situation. I like un-named's comment above (duckling - that you are not keeping but found its way into your yard and is choosing to stay but free to leave at any time). Check out my post "Raising an orphaned wood duck" for our story.

    Raising an orphaned wood duck

This past weekend we upgraded from the brooder to a larger home. It is still heated like the brooder, but is much larger and allows for a standard, small-sized feeder and water dispenser, 2" deep pan of water with rocks in it, and all the same items from the original brooder. Besides size, the...
