    Would you eat him?

I am going to cull him. When I "rescued" him, I was told there were 4 hens. When I got there I saw there were 2 hens and 2 roos. I took them because I said I would. I have culled roos before but they were free range that I raised myself.

    Would you eat him?

The thing is, he isn't really part of the family. We have kept him isolated from the other chickens and haven't really gotten to know him yet.

    Would you eat him?

I acquired a roo from a friend. She was not a chicken person but got some chicks for her kids for Easter and didn't want them any more. I got them about two months ago and they are almost 6 months old now. They were kept in a small coop and this large fat red sexlink roo couldn't stand up...

Is it possible for a pullet to NEVER lay an egg?

I have a Buff Orpington that is 16 months old and has never laid an egg. She pretends to, she goes through the motions. She sits on a nest every day for an hour or 2 and never lays. She is very sweet and I wonder if maybe she will go broody one day and sit on everyone elses eggs for me. But at...

    Will she ever lay?

I went to check on her again, she moved to a different box but she's still sitting. Poor thing, I think she wants to lay an egg so bad.

    Will she ever lay?

I have 3 RIR's that lay almost every day, 1 black Australorp that lays almost every day, and 3 Buff Orpingtons that lay almost every day. Then there is the one Buff Orpington that sits in the nesting box for about an hour each day, and never lays an egg. She has never laid as far as I know...

    Roo or hen?

Thanks! I should have put that the other way around I guess, daddy is a sussex, momma is a buff orpington. Elsa has turned out so pretty though!

    Roo or hen?

Meet Elsa? We were hoping it would be a girl, but the tail feathers make me wonder. "Elsa" is a buff orpington/sussex cross. "She" is 9 weeks old.

Mixed pullets, any idea what breed?

I was worried about that. I wanted more egg layers. It's my own fault for getting unlabeled chicks. I also got 3 straight run barred rocks, and I am pretty sure there are at least 3 pullets. I don't mind eating a few of the 15 we have though.

Mixed pullets, any idea what breed?

#1 #2 These first 3 pics are all the same chick. There are two of these, they are double the size of all the others but they are the same age, 2 weeks old. #3 #4 OK, this one is supposed to be a hen but look at that comb! Any idea what breed? #5 There are two of these as well. #6 This is...

    My egg holder

I would love an egg skelter but this works well. Its a metal fruit bowl sitting on top of a deviled egg plate :) I so love fresh eggs! I just wish the girls would all lay in the same place every time so I can find all of the eggs! That's what I get for free ranging I guess.

    Egg in the mud?

I fed it to the cats.

    Egg in the mud?

It has been raining almost constantly for the past 36 hours here and this morning I found an egg in a mud puddle outside. I am not sure how long its been there. Do you think its OK to just wash it off and eat it? or could yucky stuff soak in through the shell and make it bad?

When do Buff Orpingtons start laying?

One of my buffs is laying now. I got 5 eggs last week! I hope the other three start laying soon! They are all from the same batch and are all going to be 30 weeks tomorrow.

    My hens are teasing me!

Yay! I got an egg from one of my BO's today! Now waiting "patiently" for the other 3 to start laying!
