Needing help with butchering in Menifee

Thanks Elke Beck! I really appreciate it, although that seems like quite a drive. I will keep up the search for someone more local to me, but if I can't find any help your assistance would be very welcome. Just hate for you to have to come all this way with the cost of gas these days. I will be...

Needing help with butchering in Menifee

Thanks guys! I have been thinking about it for a while now and I think my problem is that I tried to cut too far down the neck and got too many feathers in the way to get a good cut... or in this case, any cut at all! I will try again, I just hope I can find someone with experience to make sure...

Needing help with butchering in Menifee

Hi all! As the title says I live in Menifee CA and I am in need of a mentor to show me first hand how to process my 7 chickens. I have watched videos, read forums and tried to educate myself as best I can - but when I went to actually do the deed today it did not go according to plan. DON'T...

My pic of eggs & mini rant...

Not a lot of people know or pay attention to this, but if you look at the date on the side of a carton of eggs there is a number next to it between 1-365. This number corresponds to the day the eggs were packaged. So if the number is 274, that means the eggs were packaged on the 274th day of the...

Looking to add some chicks, in Banning, CA

There is a woman in Yucaipa, just down the 10 from Banning, where I got my chicks, she has a pretty good selection available! PM me if you want her number - she sold me chicks for $2 each, but she had some older birds as well. Very nice lady and she has some nice birds. All of mine are growing...

Hi all! I'm in Menifee! It's a small area sandwiched between Murrieta and Perris, for those who don't know where it is. Glad to see how many other locals are here!

    So proud of my girls!

I just came back in from checking on my ladies for the night. The sun has been down for about 20 minutes now. I went outside and all my girls were inside their coop and on the roost together! This is a first for them, usually they are in a pile on the floor! I am so proud of them! Only 4 weeks...

Going to bed.....chickens are not the brightest bulbs....

My girls are almost 5 weeks old. I went out and got a cheap plastic baby plate for like $.50 at Target. I read that chickens are attracted to the color red, so thats what color I got. Since they were 3 weeks old I have been giving them Mealworms as a treat on this plate. They go NUTS for them...

    DE is AWFUL!!!

I also use sand inside my coop and have to agree it is sooooo nice and easy to clean. I used the construction All Purpose sand they sell at Lowes. It was about $2.40 for a 50lb. bag. I used 3 in my coop and its about 2 1/2 inches deep. So thats, what... $7.20? Good stuff

    Bananas for treats?

I tried to give my chicks some bananas a few times and they wanted nothing to do with it. They just looked at me like "What is this?! Where are our worms?? " Lol I will try to offer it to them again sometime in the future. I hope yours take to it better than mine did.

    Need a little help

Quote: Yay! This makes me feel much better! As far as I can tell all of my BSL have the same size feathers. Nobody has any noticeable difference as of yet, of course they are only going to be 5 weeks this Thursday. This particular bird is the smallest of the 3. I always thought roos would be a...
