I hadn't noticed any weight loss. The rooster appeared some what (drunk) the morning he died. I dont use chemicals, however I have always put ACV in the water. i did add vet RX to ther water this week inplace of the ACV.
I recently lost my Rooster, about 6-8 wks ago. This morning I went out to let them out and found a hen had died last night. No outside evidence. Worried.....any input will help.
I went out this morning and let them out of the run into the backyard. Reddy (Rooster) looked kind of yucky and sluggish. A couple hours later he was dead. I am so bummed out. He was just learning to crow. He was friendly and gorgeous. The others look ok. he showed no previous signs of illness????
I now have 5 out of 7 laying everyday. The songs they sing when laying sounds like labor pains. I have 2 more to go and all of them will be laying. is it possible to get more than one egg from each hen? I heard or read they will lay up two eggs pr day.
Thank-You to all that weighed in. Having a Rooster wasn't in the plan, but oh well he is my favorite. He isn't the only surprise of the day...We have an EGG!!! Our first!
We haven't heard him crow at all. When will he start waking us up?
Today my favorite chicken showed me she is really a he. The gentleman I bought my chicks from assured me they were all hens.So after asking fellow chicken people on this website and seeing him in action I now have a rooster. Then to top the morning off, looked in the nesting boxes and found my...
Today Reddy showed us that she is probably a he. As any Rooster would do he serviced a Hen. Up until today I thought he was a she. What is your take on this beauty/
A few weeks ago when my mother was visiting she told me that "Reddy" my favorite hen was really a Rooster. I politely and respectfully replied " Nope". Well this morning while watching them graze on Mulberrys Reddy mounted a hen. If this chicken is not a Rooster is this behavior normal? I mean I...
Thanks so much for the info on the signs of laying. I have 1 LH, 1 NHR,2 PR,4 RIR. They are all about 15 wks old. I have noticed of late that they are all looking a little more red in the wattles and combs. I am so excited, cant wait for our first eggs. I cannot imagine not having chickens. They...
I recently learned how to hypnotize a chicken.Yep, hypnotize. However it didn't seem to harm them. I was wondering if anyone new of a good reason why we shouldn't do this. It was funny and the kids thought it was really cool. No haters please. If you know of a valid reason why we shouldnt do this...
My daughter informed me we would get all the chickens in and put them in the basement. How to catch 8 pullets and bring in is a delemna. I will be putting my big dog crate ina handy spot to keep them safe in case of bad weather.
