HI
I have had chickens for just over a year now and just recently one became broody so I went with it and let her sit on 5 eggs (2 hers 3 my barred rocks, they lay in the same nesting box for some reason)... 2 hatched last night one is cracking and I hear it chirping (so exciting)...
anyway...
Hello,
Maybe this is a stupid question, but I dont know what Im doing wrong...
Last year I got 8 chicks, I held them, fed them, cleaned their "coop" every single day... they still dont "like" me. I keep reading how people bond with their chicks and the chickens love to see them etc etc, why...
So obviously they didnt teach me about chicken sex in school, so I'm curious to know...
When the hen lays an egg and she is housed in a coop with a rooster does that mean the egg is fertilized? I have a beautiful cochin that laid an egg and I wanted to leave it to hatch, but she doesnt sit on...
I have 7 chickens. one was picked on pretty bad by our rooster (they are now separated). anyway, the black in her eyes became cloudy and i believe she is blind. i figured it was from him attacking her so bad. i went out tonight and picked up another one of my hens and one of her eyes is...
well, i just went out and checked on my plymouth rock and noticed her eyes were all cloudy and i think shes blind. i dont know if its from him beating up on her or what but i kicked the aggressive roo out of the coop. hopefully we can get something built tomorrow and put him and my other new...
update
after observing them for quite sometime, i realized they are just going after one hen. she has wounds on her neck and she is hiding from them. the bantams arent really being overly aggressive with her, but the new hampshire is really going after her. could he just dislike her? could...
I have 3 roosters and 4 hens (yeah I got the bad luck of the draw with "pullets"). 1 rooster is a NewHampshire 1 is a silkie and one is an OEG bantam. My hens are 1 NewHampshire 1 Black Cochin 2 Plymouth Rocks. They are in a coop but I let them free range during the day. They are 17 weeks old...
We just moved to a farm that has a chicken coop in the barn. The barn is over 100 years old, so I assume the coop is 'old school'. By 'old school' I mean it may not be the most modern chicken friendly coop. The more I read on here, the more I think keeping my chickens in an indoor only coop...
I know I'm being irresponsible with my chickens, and I love them all. Ironically my New Hampshire Red Roo is my favorite lol. I bought 8 "pullets" and ended up with atleast 3 roos. I don't know how to sex silkies, but I got one of those from a SR of Bantams so I need to learn how to sex HER...
hello,
Im new here and new to chickens...
I bought these 3 chickens from an assorted SR of bantams... just wondering if anyone would be able to tell what they are (and hey if you can tell if they're roosters too that would be cool lol) let me know if I'm too early, I'll repost them when they...
