I ordered 19 chicks from Dunlap Hatchery. I received 22. They are 3 ½ weeks old in these pics. I can't ID 2 of them. I ordered 2 straight run welsummers. I ordered 1 brown leghorn. 2 EE which I have ID'd by their muffs. Here are the 2 in question:
Bottom chick is a brown leghorn...
I bought hatching eggs from a local woman...they are BCM roo over wheaten ameraucana hens. I had 8 eggs, 5 hatched. They are 11½ weeks old. I feel like they might all be pullets, but I just can't imagine the odds/luck!!??
Can you all please weigh in- I have not hatched my own OE's...
I bought 4 EE pullets from a local hatchery. This one is making me a bit nervous, please tell me what you think. Are these red spots a "shouder patch"? Everything else looks pullet-y. Please give me your thoughts. They are 7 ½ weeks old. Thank you!
ONE BABY! I just checked on Fiona, one baby is out, and still wet. One more is pipped, that I can see, but didn't want to be too disruptive! OMG I just love babies! Ill post pics as soon as I can!
"lockdown" is boring when they are under a broody. I can't see if they pip or anything.....
On a more cheerful note, 3 of my eggs are polish, and I have never had them before! I can't wait for their cute little puffball heads!
Hello! Just joining this HAL!
I set 9 eggs under my broody hen on February 25. One disappeared. No trace. They are completely enclosed, no other birds. Huh. Anyway, I have 3 BLRW, 3 White Crested Black Polish and 2 Austra Whites there now. They are all from a local hatchery, as I only...
My hen, Prissy, has had this growth for several months. It is hard, not fleshy. It started about the size of a dime, now like a large grape. It bleeds occasionally, but profusely. (lots of blood in the coop in the morning, and matted in her feathers, etc.) She does not limp, she was laying...
Im reading up on sexing EE, and I am starting to understand. Its actually quite obvious when you see it, just hard to explain or describe. Its just so hard to admit when you are in denial...
Thanks! I sure would love some more input. I am convinced the EE is a rooster, mostly by is triple pea-comb, but does the red really look like a "shoulder patch"? It seems to be all over the entirety of both wings....
I have a clutch of eggs under a broody. Then another one started sitting with her. (Unable to separate them at this time). Then the other day I went out- the original gal changed her mind and the second one was sitting (broody and flat) in another box with no eggs. They were uncovered...
Very pretty eggs. I know nothing about Silkies, but I do know that pretty much 99% of the time an Amerecauna is actually "just" an EE. Whatever that means. But all we want is the blue eggs so who cares. :)
I decided to let my broody girl have some eggs. I gave her 6- they are Marans eggs- will hatch out blue, black and splash. I gave them to her last night, so they are due on Febrary 9....thats the same day as The Walking Dead returns to TV. I'm just sayin'. So far she is sitting like a champ...
