I would like to add that they start laying fairly early (around 18 weeks), and are extremely prolific layers. I have 6 amberlinks, and once they started producing I had 40-42 eggs per week, and even now in the winter without light in the coop, I get an average of 35 eggs per week. Their eggs are...
One of my six amberlinks seems sick. She’s just over 5 months old, and yesterday morning I noticed that she didn’t come to the feeder when I let them out of the coop. I watched her some more, and she just stood by herself, neither eating or drinking. I fixed a big rubbermaid tote to put her in...
I took my chances and put them out yesterday. We have a heat lamp in the coop, and the temp in there was 49F this morning when I let them out. So they survived their first night in the coop, and then their first thunderstorm this morning...
Well, I just put my six 5-week old chicks in their outdoor coop last night. I used the PDZ powder on the whole floor (it's only 4'x4'), and this morning they all looked like little ghosts! Completely covered in that stuff... It freaked me out a little, and now I put a layer of pine shavings on...
They are 5 weeks old now. They look like miniature chickens to me with most of their feathers in. I think the amberlinks mature a little faster, because when I look at pictures of other chicks the same age, mine definitely look further along!
I have 6 amberlink chickens, they are currently 5 weeks old. My run and coop are ready to go, and frankly, I'm ready to get them out of my basement. Our temps are somewhere between 50-60 during the day, and mid 30s at night. They have been outside for a couple of hours every day that it's been...
I have some amberlinks also, but mine are only 5 weeks old at this point. I think they just mature faster, a grown hen will only weigh about 4.5 lbs. From what I've read they are excellent layers of large brown eggs.
This chart will tell you how much food per dozen eggs they consume, very...
I've done some (a lot!) reading online about this problem, and have read about this being stress-related. There's no way she's coming back in the house (among other things she peed on our stove, which we didn't realize until we turned it on, and then all ran gagging out of the house...), and I...
The pen is a good suggestion, but our yard is really small, and we just put in the chicken run! This cat never had a problem using the litter box to urinate, so I don't know if your course of action with confining the animal would change anything. I will ask my vet about this as a possibility...
I agree, it sounds horrible, but you're really just putting my thoughts down in writing... I'm just wrestling with the decision to put down an animal for a behavioural problem, as opposed to a medical one.
There's a member named Illia who breeds true Araucanas, maybe she could tell from your pictures. I'm still new to chickens, so I don't have any experience with these fancy breeds
They are very cute, congratulations and enjoy!
