Why Aren't My Chickens Laying? Here Are Your Answers!

I need some advice. About three weeks ago, the 28 new chickens I brought home were laying (1 - 2 eggs/day, one day 5 eggs!!!) when I had them quarantined in part of the coop and a covered long run away from my small flock (14) of hens. After six days, I opened up the uncovered run (so then they...

    I'm MAD

Last year, my dd's dog killed five of my six young Roos on 4th of July. They were in a chain link pen without a top and the dog climbed in. I made sure we built a strong pen bc getting rid of the dog was not an option. The long run is super strong with a plywood roof that is shingled. It...

    hatched chicks are keep dying...

same thing happening to me here. only three eggs of 25 hatched, and all three died within 12 hours. these were all hatched over a 72 hour period so I know it wasn't the headlamp or anything I was doing. so sad to watch. the last little one couldn't even lift his little head or stand up.

UPDATE - pic added! RE: HELP! hatchling crying and won't stand

My rooster is a Barred Rock (gorgeous!!!) and my hen is a Buff Orpington (at least that's what the guy at the flea market told me when I bought her in the fall), and she lays the most gorgeous milk chocolate colored eggs. I think Winkle is going to have her Daddy's markings.

UPDATE - pic added! RE: HELP! hatchling crying and won't stand

Here is a pic of Winkle strutting her stuff for the camera a few minutes ago - she's doing great tonight!!! She's eating and drinking and blending right in w/ the crowd of "older" chicks in the brooder box. Thank you everybody who responded!!! I appreciate all your suggestions!!! For some...

UPDATE - pic added! RE: HELP! hatchling crying and won't stand

The little one is still hanging in there. Now he's up and walking around and in the brooder box, but he staggers - sort of looks like a drunk walking around in there. LOL The other chicks aren't paying him any mind. He loves being held now. I pick him up, and he looks around then settles...

UPDATE - pic added! RE: HELP! hatchling crying and won't stand

I just finished my first hatch (last one was over 10 years ago so this all seems new again!), and I didn't have a high success rate. Put in 14 donated eggs (guy said, "I have a rooster so they might be fertile but I dunno....." and then 7 more from my own two hens. Short story shorter, four of...

A DYI self filling gravity feeder take a look!!!

Can you tell me how you built this? I get the general idea (feed goes out bottom of bucket and fills pan as the chickens eat what's in the pan), but I can't figure out the specifics - did you cut away the entire bottom of the bucket or just drill some holes (and if so, how big/how many?)? How...

    Need specific instructions......

I've never done this (gathering eggs and having to wait to put them all in the incubator) before. I have always just had somebody give me a dozen eggs, and then I hatched them in the classroom incubator (which I no longer have!). I found somebody locally who will give me as many fertilized...
