Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I'm no expert by any means, but I've looked at a LOT of EE pics the last few days trying to become familiar with how to spot an EE roo, and I think Ginger looks like a he. The red on the wings and the stance in the second pic scream roo to me. The rest are pullets though.

Do either of these EEs look like a roo??

Nurse turtle, just curious about what makes you think these are roosters? As Lindsey B pointed out, they don't have the flashy or patchy coloring that I've been seeing in pics of EE roos. Also, both of them have practically zero in terms of comb development. Thanks for the input.

Do either of these EEs look like a roo??

Thanks very much for the responses. So far the majority says pullet. I'd still love to hear from some other experienced EE raisers. Anybody else care to throw out an opinion?

Help! Is my 4 week old EE a roo?

My guess is roo. I've been looking at a lot of pics of EE roos vs. pullets today because I'm trying to determine if one or two of my 5 week olds are roos, and yours sure looks a lot like a cockerel based on what I've seen.

Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Hi all. What do you think of this EE, who is almost 5 weeks old. I looked at the first 20 pages of the thread and didn't see any pics of an EE that had a speckled chest like mine does. That's the part that's throwing me off with her (him?), because otherwise her coloring is pretty drab like a...

Do either of these EEs look like a roo??

Hi all. This is my first time raising chicks and I'm fairly clueless when it comes to sexing them before they're fully grown, at which point their sex becomes more obvious. I've read some of the threads on sexing EEs and didn't find them all that helpful, so I'm hoping that those of you with...

shell-less eggs under roost now a lethargic hen

I agree, that would be an interesting experiment. I suspect it wouldn't change much but I'd give it a shot just in case. Unfortunately though, I really don't know which hen is doing this.

shell-less eggs under roost now a lethargic hen

Thanks soler, but I don't think calcium deficiency is the problem. I provide oyster shell as well as soy free organic layer feed from Countryside Organics. The layer feed alone contains adeuate calcium for shell production and all my girls love it. These eggs aren't just shell-less, they also...

shell-less eggs under roost now a lethargic hen

Hi there. My hen who seemed sick/lethargic that day hasn't shown any further symptoms and seems fine now. I am still, however, getting the shell-less eggs that are "laid" at night while the girls sit on the roost. My best guess is that I had a round of infectious bronchitis come through and one...

Foods that interfere with calcium absorbtion?

I'm not sure what the calcium % is but I've read so many times that a hen somehow "knows" when she needs extra and will then help herself to the oyster shell that I provide them seperately from their layer pellets. Is that true? Plus I also give yogurt as a treat sometimes as well as cooked egg...

Foods that interfere with calcium absorbtion?

Thank you Erica. The information you just wrote sounds a lot like the post I saw in another thread and is the information I was trying to find. This particular bird is actually quite thin - she always looked fine to me but after handling her more recently and feeling around for swelling, etc. we...

Foods that interfere with calcium absorbtion?

Hi all, I recently saw a post in a thread (don't remember which one though) that mentioned some foods that can interfere with calcium absorbtion. Can anyone tell me what foods those are? What is the component that causes the interference? And at what amount per hen do you start having problems...

shell-less eggs under roost now a lethargic hen

Does anyone else have any insight? Do you agree that this is internal laying, or something else?? I really need some help here. After speaking to my local vet who treats chickens, he really doesn't sound very knowledgable about them so I feel like I'm on my own with this situation. If anyone can...

Can internal layers still produce normal eggs sometimes? And if so, are they edible (if she has EYP)

Thank you speckledhen. I would have thought that if the egg yolks are coming from a bacterial environment of EYP that any eggs formed would be contaminated with bacteria. Do you know how that would not be the case? My shell-less egg issue has been going on for a couple weeks and I know this girl...
