L Lucky you! I think I'll use chick starter + separate shell grit for the different aged pen and the feather plucking hen in the hope of breaking the habit but keep the other 17 on Layer as it's slightly cheaper.

    Feeding Different Aged Birds

I bought a 20kg bag of chick starter today because at 20% it was the only one with greater protein for both the pullets and feather pecker. However, it was $2 dearer than Classic Hen which is only 17% protein. I'll try this till babies are 16 weeks and hopefully feather pecking has stopped also...

Sounds nice and easy but expensive!

Are those young chicks with a hen to keep them warm? That wouldn't work when incubating which I haven't done yet but will be. Your life and chicks' sounds blissfully simple! Enjoy!

I don't know if we can get 20% Protein in Australia but will check.

Many thanks for this GC-Raptor. So even though they're all laying they're not on Layer Mash. I guess by giving them shell grit covers the calcium requirements for strong eggshells.

    Free coop renovation

I'd put the nests under the poop deck so they can't be pooped on which is what's happening with mine! I'd also paint it white for two reasons: 1. More light 2. To show up mites more easily so not wasting product if no mites. Great shed - well done!

    That's a relief! Thank you.

I think so. Will check out on Wednesday when in town. And some shell grit! Should be a compromise then.

Oh dear! Contradicts previous advice! But I think it'll be easier and safer this way. Many thanks.

Two questions with that: 1. If the younger ones eat the shells I thought that would be too much calcium for that stage? 2. If the older ones are eating medicated Grower then start laying I'd need to either throw out eggs or feed back to them (after cooking of course).
