Help! I have a chick with spraddle leg that's 1 1/2 weeks old. We've braced her legs since we brought her home and it seemed to be working in the beginning, but IN THE BRACE, she's managed to twist her leg around backwards. We've tried mini rubber bands linked together and vet tape, both around...
I have a 1 1/2 week old chick with spraddle leg that we took home from a local feed store. They were going to just put it down at the end of the day but my kids saw it, end of story. We used different methods of bracing to pull her legs together as soon as we brought her home. In the brace, she...
your darker bird looks almost identical to mine!! only difference is mine has a slightly crossed beak. we were told she was an ameraucana (dang feed store!), so we named her "yankee".
ok.. i found this fascinating so i googled it. here's an idea... the inside egg was the first to form, but somehow went back up into the oviduct instead of moving forward, and the process started over. the blue must be how the eggs all start out, then the pigment is deposited on the finished...
We did names that had something to do with their breed. Our Barred Rock is "Rockie", our Andalusian was "Andie", our Ameraucana is "Yankee"... Have fun!

We have 13 hens in a coop at the 4h farm. Their run is about 8x16, and the coop is maybe 5x5. There are 5 nesting boxes. We used to get an average of 10 eggs a day, but lately we're down to 2 or 3. !!??!!?? I'm sure there is pecking going on but we rarely see it happening. The 2nd pic below...
same thing happened to us not long ago... our bird was moving more but was obviously in shock. it took her at least 24 hours to start acting somewhat normally. sorry... yours might have a broken back or neck, but in case it could recover, i was told to keep mine in a quiet and protected place...

i'm with erik on this one. we built a very secure coop & run, and buried the chicken wire a few inches into the ground. I came out one morning to find that some animal had obviously tried to dig under the wire. SO glad it gave up early... it wasn't far from clearing the wire. i wish...
here's another one! not sure how old he/she is but i find the comb & wattles a little alarming... any guesses on whether it's "annie" or "andy"?
this GL wyandotte was dropped off on my front porch a week ago! i didn't mind...
