My ladies are eating like pigs!!

We're going to try to NOT mix in corn then and see if that helps. Yes, by Sunday afternoon, there was only about 4 cups of food left of the 80 lbs I bought on Wednesday. :( IF the robins are eating it too, they are flying in through the door (only during the day as we close it at night), but I...

My ladies are eating like pigs!!

The only other animal that can get into our chicken coop may be other things like robins, etc, but i haven't seen any of them hanging around at all (like I do when I have a bird feeder hanging out in the far corner of the chicken run). And b/c the temperature have been like -20 windchill, we...

My ladies are eating like pigs!!

Just checking...are you saying that 80-120 lbs of feed a week is normal for 29 laying hens during the winter?

My ladies are eating like pigs!!

50-60 lbs/week is what we were doing before we headed into about 6 months of molt between all of the birds. My husband & I were just wondering if maybe they were knocking the feed when flying off their roost (it's kind of in the middle of the room, but somewhat in front of the door to the...

My ladies are eating like pigs!!

Hi - I have 29 laying hens, almost 2 years old and we have been going through feed like crazy lately! I started buying the Nutrena "Feather Fixer" feed because I had so many going through molt, or just finishing and my eggs were almost non-existent (about 6-8 eggs/day!). They have picked back...

LIght pressboard fell on my 6 week pullet and now she won't walk

Thanks!! We are going to put her with another chick tomorrow morning as she finally started eating tonight. She is limping around the utility sink, but only as much as she has to. We didn't have a good way to keep 2nd chick from roaming our utility room so I think we're going to put her...

LIght pressboard fell on my 6 week pullet and now she won't walk

OH!! And we did check for any broken bones and couldn't find any. We stretched each of her legs at each joint and rotated them slightly and she didn't express any discomfort at that movement.

LIght pressboard fell on my 6 week pullet and now she won't walk

This happened sometime last night before 9 or 10 p.m.. She has been drinking water of her own accord and is standing up and cheeping, but not moving much on her own. She has stood and stretched her neck to see what is going on, so I take it that is a good sign? She is moving a little but it...

LIght pressboard fell on my 6 week pullet and now she won't walk

Update: She IS now drinking water on her own. My kids gave her a slice of bread to entice her to eat so i'm going to be checking to see if she is eating that in a bit.too. Maybe there is hope? Still haven't seen her try to stand up though. :(

LIght pressboard fell on my 6 week pullet and now she won't walk

Last night, my husband went to close up our henhouse and while checking on the 6 week old pullets, found that the board we've been using to try to keep the baby chicks from accidentally falling into the feed bin (couldn't find the lid) and fallen on one of our girls. We brought her in and put...

What breed do you think these roosters are?

Okay, I am sorry, but I have racked my brain -- what are "BCM mixes", Pandapaws23?? :)
