Bobwhite with just hatched chicks has gone broody? Should I be worried?

Recently thanks to a sociopath chicken I was on the brink of losing my last bobwhite. In order to prevent that, I had to take her inside to keep her warm while all her snapped and broken feathers grew back. Since she was the last one, I decided to try and hatch a bunch of eggs she had laid all...

Broody Quail and raising chicks - (baby pics! )

Hi all: perhaps saying the broodiness has been "bred out" is misleading some people. If I understood what happened correctly, they stopped being broody, because breeders have selected hens to breed based on their NOT going broody. Doing that does NOT mean the hens lose the genetic capability...

Chicken seems to have a seriously massive gas problem, but seems fine otherwise.

I have looked, and other than looking rather large for such a small chicken, the poop looks like it should like disgusting semi-solid mush with white stuff. I agree that it probably is nothing, but I thought it would be a good idea to ask to make sure for someone else this was a sign of problem...

Chicken seems to have a seriously massive gas problem, but seems fine otherwise.

I will try, but catching her in the act in order to video will not been easy, especially since you have to get really close to her to hear it over the background noises like the wind. While I knew for a long time she could fart now and then, I never knew how extreme it was until early this...

Chicken seems to have a seriously massive gas problem, but seems fine otherwise.

Every time I have gone out to feed my two english game hens, one of them inevitably lets out a very very long whistle fart that goes on for about 1-2 minutes. She does it so regularly that I've gotten a good look to see if something is wrong with her when it's happening. Other than getting...

Great English documentary on Chickens Answers a lot of questions about chickens

One highlight shows a hen swallowing a mouse she caught whole. Chickens have much better vision when it comes to spotting "movement" than humans do. When something moves fast, we see a blur, but a Chicken will see clear smooth movement. Watch the "pecking order" chickens create for...

    Brown eyed chickens?

It seems most chickens seem to have some sort of orange shade of eye color.with an occasional green or blue. I have a chicken who has definite brown eyes. They are so dark, that here eyes look black in normal light. I have to shine a light directly into her eyes to see her dark brown irises...

    In search of California Quail....

ebay is the source for that sort of stuff. Eggs from every sort of quail you have ever seen a picture of, and at the right time chicks. Just go to ebay and do a search for quail eggs. Among the results should be sellers of CA quail eggs. Gambel's quail look almost identical by the way.

    Decrowing Roosters.

This is a great idea, and it's long past due that it become a common skill practices by vets everywhere. Roosters, at least some of them, can be fantastic pets. The notion that it's cruel to do this to an animal is ridiculous. What an animal is designed to do by nature as a wild animal is...

My chicken's favorite food is Fried Chicken

No doubt your chickens not only loved those ribs, but did their best to pick one up and run off with it. And I'm sure you know they just LOVE bugs, even rolly pollies will get them going haha.

My chicken's favorite food is Fried Chicken

Stewed Chicken, baked chicken, chicken cooked in any way it seems gets their heart going and their beaks watering. They are unapologetic cannibals. Has anyone else found out this dark secret about their flock? ;) I couldn't believe it at first how aggressively and eagerly they consumed their...

The world's smallest Rooster? You have to see the picture.

I was doing some research and came across this picture. Check out the super tiny rooster on the Right edge of the table. It's a picture from a Malaysian news site, and I don't read Malay, but it's not necessary to see that is one small rooster LOL...

    Olandsk Dwarf Chickens

I don't know if it makes a difference, but I do have a Serama rooster which are supposedly easier to handle. I don't know if that's simply due to size or that they are calmer. I know that if he were a larger rooster, it wouldn't be so easy to get him away from his hens LOL
