Yeah I just found a left over roll of it in my shop. I'll probably start working it in on my next "off day". Same thing with the apron. I've got it around the red coop. I blended in with the grass so fast, I forgot it was there ha
So this was my current coop/run setup. I originally had 8 but do to the "Lab Chicken massacre of 2016" I was down to 2 hens.
I wanted to add a second group of hens and possibly a rooster. I read some stuff about keeping them separated. I started researching "2 coops with a shared run" but...
What size is the coop? You could look at building a base for the coop to set on. Kinda like most elevated box coops, where the chicks can run underneath. Lifting the coop would be the issue with that. If you could get under the coop a little bit you could get some 2x4 or 4x4s underneath...
You answered my next question haha. I'd love to hatch some from my coop but I'll have to see if any of the new hens are broody. My currents ones are definitely not. My main concern was my wife cracking open a partially grown chick during breakfast haha.
Straight to the fridge they will go until...
If I get a rooster, I'll get him with the other hens I'll be adding. I'm hoping this will help the whole group. Thanks for the link. I haven't done much research on adding a rooster and what it will do to the eggs. The rooster will be a RIR or possibly a Yellow Buff. I'm adding 4 Yellow Buff...
I've had hens for a while now. I have the opportunity to add the 1st rooster to the flock. I'm adding some more hens tomorrow, to give us 8 total hens. I feel like 1/8 is a good ratio. My questions come to the eggs.
How do I know which eggs are fertilized? (probably all ha)
How long can I keep...
I agree. If something negative happened in the old coop, that needs to be trained out of them. Catch them and put them in the the new coop for a few days. They need to feel safe in there so they know its ok to be in the coop. I'm not a big fan of putting water and food in the coop but that may...
I'm with Jennyf, take the hinges off the side and move them to the top. Attach a small handle or eyebolt at the bottom of the door. Tie string to the eye bolt and run it up, of of the run where you have access to it. Then the down opens up and down. You can tie it off up top and leave it open...
I agree. Prefab coops are expen$ive and cheaply made. Talk to your folks at TS or similar store. A lot of times they have bulletin boards with people buying/selling animals. Sometimes there are folks on there who build coops too. Craigslist is hit and miss.
Also, if you want something mobile...
What if you duplicated your A-frame section and added it onto the back. Then cut out 2 large holes in the back of the original, giving you twice the space. You can use part of the new addition for nesting boxes and the rest gives them some more space. Box in the bottom of the new section and...
Haha well that's the first time I've seen a goat in a box. Good idea though. I'll be stealing this when I move 6 hens back to my little slice of heaven this weekend.
Ignore all the lumber stuck through like Jenga logs. I was brainstorming and used them as references.
That being said, i used 2 cattle panels 16' x 50". I built an 8'x8' frame on the bottom with kick plates to hold the panels. Its probably 6'4" tall in the middle. I'm 6'2" and I can stand...
