I just called around to the four different Avian Veteranarins in my area and the cheapest price for a necropsy was $400. I desperately need and want to know what the issues are, but I cannot afford to spend that much on a necropsy at this time. Hopefully, I can figure out the issue through this...
I have noticed throughout my time owning chickens that some of my chickens have developed dry pox on the comb or wattles, but I read on this site that it will go away with time. I also understand that exposure to dry pox can cause an outbreak or even cause wet pox. I've read that wet pox is...
The necropsy sounds beneficial, but it sounds pricey. The mouth infections I've encountered weren't bumpy like I've read wet pox to be, but did create breathing problems for the ones that had it. It seemed sinus related because mucus from the sinus passage or some kind of wet substance would be...
We have lost a few during the summer months when it was extremely hot. At that time, my uncle who also raises chickens lost a few girls who were several years old. My local feed store had also reported many customers reporting deaths. I have installed some measures to help them during the summer...
Hi,
My wife and I started raising backyard chickens over a year ago and have experienced an extremely high percent of deaths among our flock. Out of about 50 chicks/chickens I'm left with 14. I did not get them all at the same time, age, or place. And we haven't had a chicken live longer than 8...
I have always had a problem with pigeons, sparrows, and finches getting into my chicken coop and eating their food. Most of my chickens were vaccinated for Mareks disease prior to shipping from the hatchery. After your comments, I feel the problem is probably that diseases are being brought in...
I have searched about the risks of burying diseased chickens and have found nothing. I buried some diseased chicks in my backyard a year ago and since have lost about 6 older birds. I'm pretty positive that 3 of those deaths were not disease related, but my concern is that the pathogen is still...
My uncle and I both own chickens in the Phoenix area. Him for 5 years and me for going on 2 years. Something that we've both experimented with that has worked greatly is acid water. We've both had chickens with the mucus and watery substance coming out of their mouth and gave them 10 ml of acid...

I just checked her out pretty thoroughly. She didn't fight me when I felt her leg and there was no indications of a break. I think it might have been initial soreness. She's starting to hobble on that foot now. The strange thing was that the hurt leg was very warm where as he other leg was cold.
I recently found one of my Mottled Houdan girls hanging upside down from her left leg which was stuck in one of my porch chairs. I gently got her unstuck and checked her out. Everything seems to be in order, however, she isn't walking at all. She stood on the other leg, but won't apply pressure...
''I better go make sure the girls are up''
''Peeps, come here girl, do you want to go watch tv?''
''Do you think we should get the girls some watermelon?''
''Bucks (buckeye hen), leave Rosco (my 100lb. Chocolate lab) alone.''
