Thanks for the information! I looked into gapeworm, he is very active still running around and eating a lot. I walked outside to look at him just now and they all came running across the yard to me, and he was the first to arrive. Is that likely with Gapeworm?
Also while he was there he was...
Ok... so my rooster is only about 7 months old. Today I noticed when he walks around he'll stop occasionally and open his beak up wide but no sound comes out. I watched him do it about 10 times in less than a minute. Are there such things as a silent rooster? Or is there something else going on...
Looks great! I wouldn't trust the lamp clips either! And great idea on the doggy pads!
As mine got bigger then started kicking over all their food, and pooping in it... it was super frustrating! Maybe place their food in an old egg carton with the top portion cut off? Maybe glue it down...
Thanks everyone! I didn't know it took that long for spurs to come in! So far he's really well behaved, and likes to be pet and eats treats from my hand. Hopefully he stays that way!
I know this is PROBABLY a rooster with the larger comb... but is it POSSIBLE that its a girl? One of my other birds has a HUGE comb, and is a girl. But none have the pretty tail feathers like this one. No spurs though! is it POSSIBLE?
The two birds in these pictures are speckled sussex
Yeah, I put a golf ball in one of the boxes... and it worked for the first few days, but now she just lays wherever she wants... its been a week and a half of laying wherever she feels like. Now a second one started laying, and she follows the first around and lays where she laid.
It's ok...
That’s funny... I'm brand new to chickens, my girls just started laying around New Years... one of mine started that squat and eggs came 2-3 days later... then a second one started doing it, and she laid the next day! I didn't know that's what it meant until the second one did it!
Congrats! :)
Ok, so about a week ago one of my girls started laying! Her first 4 eggs were in one of the nesting boxes I put in their coop! Today, she laid one right in the middle of the yard... which my dog found before me.
Is this fixable? Or is this life with chickens?
I have a couple of questions, because I'm new and I have only had my sand for a few months now. Did you get river sand, or regular sand? Meaning, course sand... or fine sand that you would find in a playground/beach? Was it covered from the elements?
I used river sand, and so far its been...
Hello!
So I have 3 hens that are 5 months old, and I just got 2 new chicks, that are a week old. Obviously for now they are separate, the chicks are in the garage in a brooder, and the hens are in their coop. When and how do I introduce the 2 youngsters?
Thank you!!
