My bantam frizzle rooster is vomiting and drooling foul smelling clear liquid. He is lethargic, not eating and standing around with his eyes closed. I thought it was sour crop but his crop isn't swollen. I think that I'm going to loose him. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks for the responses. I'll try and post a picture but it will have to be in a couple of days (technical issues). It seems to have affected about 10 follicles and only in the tail area.
I hope I'm using the correct terminology. My silkie / cochin / frizzle cross rooster has been missing his tail feathers for several months. I was waiting for the fall moult thinking that they would grow back in at that time. He has moulted but only one tail feather has grown in. Upon closer...
My hen had this problem. I gave her a warm bath, probed her cloaca with a gloved, vasaline covered finger and flushed her with water usina a syringe. Eventually she passed a large, soft shell. She is now happily in her coop with her friends.
Good luck with your hen.
Hi,
I currently have a broody silkie who is sitting on two red cochin eggs. I collected them from a friend who's hen had been sitting on them for 'a few days' and I set them under her on August 28 (15 days ago). I went to our cottage for a week and had a friend looking afer my chickens...
Just a quick update and a thanks to everyone again...Whisky laid a perfect egg yesterday. Shell was hard and firm. The oyster shell did it's job. Now it is available to all of the hens.
She's back to her usual self. I'm so happy!
A big huge thanks for sonew123 for her fast response and support. I really, really appreciated her help in time of crisis for us and her help saved the chicken. Whisky, the hen in question, is now back in the barn with her other chicken friends.
It was funny, yesterday my 9 year old son, who...
Thanks Sonew123, your advice and support has been very helpful.
She passed the shell! My husband commented on how water soaked it was...I guess all of that flushing worked out afterall.
She is looking brighter, is pooping, eating a little bit of scambled egg with oyster shell mixed in, her...
I lubed up my finger and went searching again. There is nothing in her cloaca. Does that mean that the egg could have broken in her oviduct? I did see her pass a perfectly normal looking inside of the egg ie. yolk etc. but no shell.
she is still pushing, not eating and no signs of any egg...
I've been flushing her cloaca with cool water with a syringe but nothing but a small amount of white poop is coming out. No signs of egg shells. I seem to have put more water in her than is coming out...
She's pushing and pushing and trying really hard. We 'force fed' her some yoghurt with...
Thank you very much for the link. My husband has been searching for egg pieces inside her with KY jelly and a latix glove. He can feel something but can't pull it out. She's relaxing right now in a warm bath.
I've bought her inside and have a cage for her. I'll try and feed her the oyster...

I have a banty hen who has just passed a yolk with no shell. She is lethargic and unhappy. Her last few eggs had a weak shell and I was in the process of getting her some oyster shells. But it seems too late...please help...she's our favorite hen and our children love her..anything I can...
I have a hen who is only 9 months old and the shell of her eggs is thin and breaks easily. She is on a complete feed crumble so I thought she would get enough calcium. I bought a bag of oyster shells from the feed mill last week but on the instructions it says it has silica in it and all kinds...
Thank you very much Sunny Side Up and Jason for taking the time to type all of that information out! It really helps me with a plan.
I went out to the barn after I posted these questions, there was Lucy out of her nest having a dust bath and then the rooster mounted her. He is not an...
