Knowing when to rehome, cull or keep trying?

I am so sorry to hear about your bully girls! I am glad you have it resolved. I didn't end up with loss of life, but definitely things were NOT peaceful lol! I ended up selling 5 of them plus an agresssive EE and things are so calm and peaceful right now in the flock. I wish I would have...

Knowing when to rehome, cull or keep trying?

Thank you for the information! Chickens were not a plan for 2020, and then the pandemic hit and we decided to take the plunge early. I had done a lot of breed research and the sex links were NOT on my list, unfortunately they were pretty much all I could get at the time. I now know that I have...

Calcium deposits on eggs after mite treatment? Or stressed out hens?

They do have free access to oyster shell grit at all times, for some reason they have stopped eating it though in the past couple of weeks.

Calcium deposits on eggs after mite treatment? Or stressed out hens?

I initially treated the coop with Seven dust, a couple of times (because it was rainy and cold mainly) then I sprayed everything in the coop and covered run with permethrin 2 weeks ago. I can do another spray this weekend though since the weather is nice and it takes a bit to dry after I spray...

    Mystery Hen

Wow! That was super informative! Although I am not the OP, I am grateful for this information!

Calcium deposits on eggs after mite treatment? Or stressed out hens?

They were RPM, unfortunately. I have been battling them since February and I am finally feeling confident that I have them under control now. We had a lot of rain over the winter (equals muddy run) and I didn't have the dust bathing spots set up very well for that. All corrected at this...

Calcium deposits on eggs after mite treatment? Or stressed out hens?

All of the girls were treated with poultry dust twice, 7 days apart and I added an additional dust bathing box, fresh DE in both of the boxes. I didn't re-treat the coop though, I guess that would be my oops now that I read your response and think about it. I don't see any signs of mites on...

Calcium deposits on eggs after mite treatment? Or stressed out hens?

I have a few hens that are laying eggs with calcium deposits that have recently been treated for mites. I have read several threads, blogs, articles and I keep seeing conflicting information around this. Either that it's too much calcium or not enough so honestly I am just very confused...

Change in rooster behavior after rehoming part of flock

Good advice and thank you! He is totally fine when I am outside the run. In fact sometimes I feel like he is trying to prove to me that he is a good caretaker of the flock because when I walk up to the run he comes running with the rest of the girls, starts chortling and picking up things...

Change in rooster behavior after rehoming part of flock

So it may just be a coincidence that this came up now. I feel comfortable giving him some time and space and see what happens. Also if it helps, he is a Buff Orpington.

Change in rooster behavior after rehoming part of flock

Hello! Until a couple of days ago, I had a flock of 13 birds total including my rooster. I rehomed 5 hens that were problematic (overly aggressive production reds) to create peace in the flock. Even though I know it was a good thing for the flock, I am sure it has been stressful as the...

    Mites

Quick question, is there an egg withdrawl period with either of these? Asking because I have seen conflicting information around this. Thank you!

Knowing when to rehome, cull or keep trying?

I am sure I can find a buyer, I am on several local poultry Facebook groups and there are always people looking and they are excellent producers for sure! Thank you for telling me about your experience, it's appreciated!

Knowing when to rehome, cull or keep trying?

That is an excellent tip! I hadn't even thought that far yet but appreciate that tip immensely! I also appreciate your comment about not admitting defeat but learning from the experience! That does help me feel better about this situation as I have already tried so much. At least if I...

Knowing when to rehome, cull or keep trying?

I figured as much about selling them, I just hate to admit defeat you know! I could put up a small shelter and section off the run, it's definitely big enough to do that and that's a great idea especially with the weather getting better.
