I have just visited my vet with one of my Cream Legbar hens. She’s lost feathers from her rear and has tiny brown mites crawling
over the area. Yesterday she also had a white mass that you could see from the outside of her skin but today that seems to have disappeared, although it is still swollen in her rear area. The vet could not offer any advice except to say she had ‘head lice’.
These are not red mites.
Can someone please help with treatment.
I have 8 other girls, but haven’t noticed anything on them as yet.
Thank you.

Probably the best thing is a permethrin spray or 5% Sevin dust.
You'll need to treat all the birds, completely clean out the building, treat it and retreat all the birds in a week.

Quick question, is there an egg withdrawl period with either of these? Asking because I have seen conflicting information around this.

Thank you!
