I'm sorry for your loss Roz.
Thank you both for your suggestions. I will do my best to address that. Poor girl I guess some diotamaceous earth wouldn't be a bad idea either, huh?
Her comb started out getting pale and now it's turning either very pale (bloodless) or slightly purple/blue...
Hi everyone,
I have a hen about 20 months old and she has the following symptoms:
- lost a lot of chest feathers 1 month ago following a bout of aggression (not sure why she suddenly became aggressive)
- egg production declined/has been soft-shelled for a few weeks (off/on)
- comb over last 3...
Thank you Carrie and Cmom...I will have to do something akin to the "hose" trick! The attacks haven't stopped so I've resorted to separating the attacker and victim from one another probably 90% of the day. I make sure each gets their time in with the other girls since I know they're social...
Thanks Galanie. I will definitely consider that. I did have them separated for a while yesterday and the day before. Oddly enough, there have been no squabbles today - I hope it stays that way, but if it continues to escalate, then I will have to separate them
Hi,
I have 4 RIR sex-links that are 18 months old. They have been VERY happy together for the past year, but suddenly (last 3 days) one hen is mercilessly attacking the omega female almost at random (I say that as I don't see a real pattern for why the attacks are happening...food, water...
Hi,
I have a girl who has stopped laying for a few weeks - we thought she was an internal layer and she has laid 2 shell-less eggs since. She hasn't grown quite like the other girls and now I just noticed that her eyelids are yellow and none of the other girls have this. Do chickens get...
Well....today I found 2 eggs from Henrietta: one soft-shelled and broken open, and the other is shell-less. I guess that means she either has egg-drop, or she is an internal layer. I de-wormed them all regardless.
Poor girl...
Interesting news....just checked on the ladies and Henrietta - the "sick" and listless girl looks great today - she is alert, eating voraciously, drinking lots of water, pecking at things and staying with the group. Her wings are not drooping down and she's not sitting hunched.
Any suggestions...
Thank you all again for your helpful posts.
She looks a little perkier today, but no egg yet.
I haven't wormed them yet - buying meds tomorrow. They eat a lot of worm carriers, so that seems likely. But if she's egg-bound I'll try the bath and see how that goes - otherwise...is there...
I really can't see anything around on her feathers near her vent - the girls really don't like being handled, so I haven't picked her up to mover her feathers out of the way. I looked everywhere for poop...found one spot in the coop that does have a very pale yellow tinge to it...don't know if...
Hi,
Thank you for your help, everyone...much appreciated.
She's not drooping...just...narcoleptic! Has cat naps on the spot and seems slow and lazy, and she's not quite bright enough to catch onto things. She doesn't really walk with a penguin-like stance, either...she just walks slowly...
Hi all,
I have 4 hens: 3 are very healthy, but the 1 is acting very strange. She is sleeping a lot (throughout the day off and on), hanging out on the roost until late morning, she is walking around and sitting slightly hunched, but otherwise seems very healthy....any suggestions? I'm getting...
I also have the same problem....and I'm having trouble finding answers...sorry to not be any help. 1 of my hens was laying for 3 weeks, then stopped this past week. She sleeps throughout the day off/on but everything else looks healthy.
What is going on???
I've just had a similar problem...3/4 of my hens are laying once a day, but the other one WAS laying once a day and is no longer laying (4 days in a row). They are all looking healthy and they also have everything they need. My one hen who's not laying sleeps a lot and seems "depressed" and...
