As I said it was just an opinion.
Another suggestion is regurgitation. You posted that there was serious injury to this bird that she was plucked and skinned.
Is it possible that she preened some of the injured skin from herself and this combined with other materials in her crop? If there is a...
I will tell you my opinion.
It looks exactly like an eggroll, you can clearly see the layers of rolled dough around meat and veg. in the photo.
My guess is that it came from the trash or a litterbug and your bird picked it up to try and eat it, and could not so it was left for you to find. It...
We have hatched back to back that way and at three weeks old when the younger birds ar mostly fully feathered we put the two groups together 6 older chicks and 9 youngerchicks, they get along great and there are no major issues. the older ones will occasionally muscle the younger ones away from...
If you are looking for folks to tell you it is OK to hatch late in the year you are in the right place
The reason many of us are on here is because we are all grossly addicted to hatching and raising chickens. I think the only reason anyone here would tell you not to hatch eggs is... well I...
final update,
Sadly the last PA Del that hatched yesterday has died.
I had very little hope that it would make it and am not suprised.
So the final numbers are 20 out of 24 ferile GA Delaware eggs 3 out of 4 GA BBS Orpington eggs giving me an 82% hatch rate when picking up the eggs Vs. 7 out...
Sorry for the long wait folks,
I had a dr.'s appt. today and was out for a while.
The babies are doing wonderfully this morning, they just needed an extra long nap I guess. They are in the brooder with all the others
The last two are still a bit crusty but I thought they were fluffed enough...
I have a theory about the other Orp, I was watching it hatch and it seemed that it did not stretch the U. cord or something because there was alot of blood. much much more than I have seen from any other chick. so I figure that the blood loss made it weak, so much that it could not hang on long...
If it were me I would move the eggs to the hatcher and monitor the temps overnight. just putting the eggs in will absorb a portion of the heat. right now you are just heating the inside of the hatcher so the temp will be a little high I bet if you put the eggs in there the temp will drop closer...
You guessed it we used a food coloring pen to mark the heads of the PA babies since there were fewer of them. We were going to use leg bands but they are to big for those baby feet right now. we have three sizes and the smallest ones are still just abit too big so in a few days we will try again...
if your homemade bator that you want to use for a hatcher is still air then you want to have about 102 for a temp if it has a circulating fan then you want it closer to 99.5. which type did you make?
OK home stretch here only three left in the bator two Orp's STILL (LAZY BABIES) in the bator one is out of the egg but is still not very active, it is moving and twitching almost like it is dreaming or something the other is still hanging out in the shell not even trying to get out. I plan on...
one last update before I crash and my wife takes over..
the second Orp is hatching YIPEE the first one is still sleeping ??? but is beginning to dry out and is absolutely gorgeous it definately has some splash and another color ?? not sure the second one that is hatching now looks like it...
more sad news so we will get it out of the way first,
the premature PA Del seemed to be doing fine, it had absorbed about 80% of the sack that was protruding at hatch, and then it started to reverse itself. The sack became larger and larger and it started to leak yellow fluid. It appeared that...
