    Question about free-rangeing

My auto door setter lets mine out 0630 & they're out then, until about 19-1930, the door auto locks at 2000hrs at the moment. If I spot fox etc I'm extra vigilant and sometimes let them out a bit later, or try & get them in earlier. They love pecking around on the grass, and have a great sized...

Nesting box filler: what do you use?

My new hens did this, every night I picked them up and placed them on the roost, and about two weeks later my efforts paid off!

    Chickens foot is bleeding

Can anybody advise me on this. I noted my chickens foot bleeding, I think it has only just happened, while I'd gone to renew the food in the coop. I don't know if my other hen did it accidentally while pecking at the food which had escaped onto the floor a little, but now she seems to have...

Ok, I've brought my new chickens home today! They are around a year old, I've introduced them to the coop and given them some feed and water- one has produced my first egg! how do I get them out of the coop to free range? I don't want to spook them but I now want them foraging for bugs, weeds etc

Thank you all for making me feel so welcome! I do have quite a good area of space for them, and will be happy with what ever they can lay for me! If I get too many I can always sell or give them away and when they are not so forthcoming I can do without. I guess at the beginning there's a bit of...

Thanks lovechickenss, I think I'll definitely get four, you've helped me make my mind up! If it weren't for going back to the UK next week for a week, I'd be getting them right now! Still, it gives me something to look forward to for when I get back

Thanks for the welcome Yorkshire Coop! I'll take a look at that link, thanks for that. I think the chicken tv will be great too, especially with the warmer weather arriving and I'm sure hubbie will come around to them, he won't be having to clean them out, so what's not to enjoy? And free range...

Hi, I've really enjoyed reading fellow members threads and info surrounding chickens! I'm an expat living in Bulgaria, and will be getting some chickens in a couple of weeks, I'm soooo excited, hubbie doesn't share my enthusiasm, he has helped fix up an old shed for their coop and fenced off an...
