    Paint before assembly?

Thanks! You’re right. The one I have is a premade deal that was given to me with my first two hens. I’m not sure where they bought it, but it seemed very used and I haven’t been impressed with it, especially to it holding up in the rain. We plan to redo the run as well and finally get a roof...

    Paint before assembly?

(im sorry if this has already been discussed... it didn’t come up in my search) I’m buying an unassembled coop... I know it’s so unoriginal and lame, but I’m so tired to looking at coops and trying to make decisions. It seems to me like painting all the pieces before assembling them would be...

Something's not right with my chick

    Maybe bumble feet? Yuck

Something's not right with my chick

After looking at the bottom of its feet and a google search I think it might be something wrong there. She is pooping big, bird-like poops so I think she’s ok there

Something's not right with my chick

I wonder if her feet could possibly be hurt from moisture? The duck was making an awful mess with the water until I learned to put the water canister over a small paint bucket with a metal grate with small holes. Still gets messy but much more manageable

Something's not right with my chick

Here are some pics. The ground was a little damp from a small rain shower we had this morning so her bottom side is little moist. She seems to try to walk as little as possible and I’m noticing that she tends to rest on one side or the other, maybe not being able to balance well? She’ll start to...

Something's not right with my chick

I bought a day old chick from the feed store about a week and a half ago to buddy up with the white pekin duck I also bought the same day. They seem to love each other, and the duck is certainly thriving. However, I started noticing the chick becoming much less active. Whenever I come around...

    Hello from FL

Awesome! I was unaware that there was a state thread. That'll be very helpful

    Duckling to be alone temporarily

Thanks! I wasn't aware of that. In the end, I guess the quacking level of 3 wouldn't be much different than the 2? (I'm always trying to be as courteous a neighbor as possible although no one has ever complained)

    Hello from FL

We had the ducks nearly a year. They were both female... great friends. The other wouldn't lay or spend much time in the duck pool for weeks after her death. She's doing better now, but we plan to get her a companion.

    Duckling to be alone temporarily

Thanks! Nice to meet you :) I have been looking. Maybe that would be the best option. My hesitation has been that it would be at least an hour drive (probably more) to the closest one unless I get lucky (and so far, I haven't). Also, the kids are excited to raise a duckling.

    Hello from FL

HI! My name is Julie, and I've been happily owning my small backyard flock for about a year and a half. We were given 2 adult Ameraucana with the whole set up from a family who couldn't care for them anymore. Then we purchased 2 female plymouth rocks and 2 white pekin ducks. Unfortunately, one...

    Duckling to be alone temporarily

We live in the city with 4 backyard chickens and had 2 ducks (all female), but one of the ducks was recently killed. The other duck took it hard for weeks, and it was heartbreaking for my kids also. I called the feed store to learn that they would have ducklings in this Friday. My plan is to get...
